Praia do Ribeiro do Cavalo: Picture-Perfect Seclusion

Praia do Ribeiro do Cavalo is quite often named as one of Portugal’s most beautiful beaches, but still, too, it remains somewhat a secret because, that is, getting there requires a little effort, a small amount of commitment. That’s almost what makes it so special. So you could choose a kayak trip from Sesimbra’s main beach which provides stunning views of the coastline and a little adventure, you see, or there’s the land route which involves a slightly tricky descent. Trust me, in that case, the view is worthy of it. Imagine turquoise water enclosed by dramatic cliffs, with only the sound of the waves and the occasional seagull breaking the silence. Like paradise, if you can picture it. Is that it?

Praia da Baleeira: A Tranquil Escape

Slightly more accessible is Praia da Baleeira. But yet, it has its charm, and, that is, you can reach this beach either by boat or by going on foot down a path, which is not particularly signposted, just a little bit, and in that case you’ll be greeted by softer sands and waters usually rather calm, making it very perfect for families. It’s a very fantastic spot for swimming and sunbathing. Plus, there are usually fewer crowds than at the more famous beaches, as a matter of fact, so it’s ideal, seemingly, if you’re just wanting a peaceful beach day. We think you’d like it. The view out to sea, seemingly endless, also adds to the calm.

Cabo Espichel: Rugged Beauty and Secret Coves

Cabo Espichel itself is worth the travel for its dramatic cliffs and views of the lighthouse, and the windswept landscape really does create a, clearly a striking vista. Fewer folk know of the miniature, you know almost microscopic, bays hiding along its base. So you’ll have to explore a tiny bit on foot, carefully so, mind, and, in some respects, you could come across small beaches sheltered by rock formations, more or less. Very private, more or less very untouched, and generally delivering a certain thrill of discovering a place that, you know, very feels like it is just your own, apparently.

Praia dos Galapos and Galapinhos: Twin Gems

Praia dos Galapos and the smaller Galapinhos, next door, consistently rank among the best beaches in Portugal, actually. That is because their sheltered location helps provide unbelievably calm, azure waters which are really seemingly still and clear as glass. What’s more they’re nestled in the Arrábida Natural Park so in some respects, that’s almost why it gives it extra visual oomph! As a matter of fact Galapinhos is just a tiny bit of a walk down a dirt track from Galapos, which can make all the difference. It often has a very less people, and so arguably it can feel like finding a secluded paradise. Of course there’s nothing like jumping off rocks in the turquoise coloured sea!
