Lisbon Charms Tuk Tuk Tour: An Honest Review

Lisbon, you know, it’s almost like a city that grabs your heart from the moment you first glimpse it. With its sloping streets, detailed tilework, plus the aroma of *pastéis de nata* wafting from every *pastelaria*, it’s just brimming with a charm that is very unique. So, when I decided to see it in a slightly unusual style, a Lisbon Charms Tuk Tuk Tour seemed like just the right way to do it.

What Exactly Is a Lisbon Charms Tuk Tuk Tour?

Lisbon Tuk Tuk

A tuk tuk, that, you see is essentially a motorized rickshaw, they’re pretty common in certain parts of the world. In Lisbon, though, it’s sort of become a funky, definitely unique way to get around. A Lisbon Charms Tuk Tuk Tour, as a matter of fact, is simply a tour that whisks you all over the city in one of these open-air vehicles, often with a driver who is that, is very much also your local guide. So, you are zipping through tiny alleyways, and halting at famous spots, is that, is something that provides a completely different point of view than your common tour bus could provide.

Booking and Preparation

Booking Tuk Tuk Tour Lisbon

The booking thing, I felt, was super easy. There were quite a few vendors providing the Lisbon Charms Tuk Tuk Tour experience, so I started by doing some checking online. Reading the reviews, in particular, it’s almost something that helped me get a feel for which ones were often regarded, you see, as reliable, as well as fun. Eventually, I opted to go for a tour that focused a bit, or in a way, on the historical areas, basically cause that interested me.

A little bit before my scheduled tour time, so it’s almost just like maybe about fifteen minutes beforehand, I turned up at the arranged meeting spot, just there next to Praça do Comércio. One great thing, is that the tour company, they actually sent me a reminder email the day before, so it’s almost just like there’s really less chance I’d completely forget about it, or mix up the timing. Meeting my driver, his name was Miguel, he, was, actually quite an experience in itself – super pleasant, is that, and it’s that they are clearly very proud to be sharing his passion for his city.

The Tour Experience

Lisbon Tuk Tuk Experience

Okay, so the tour began, we very carefully drove directly from Praça do Comércio, going right through Alfama. This, in fact, is Lisbon’s oldest district, this is the one you think of with its slender lanes, so, too its aging structures, the whole area practically oozes character. Miguel, very, very kindly filled us in on snippets of local information and stories as we gently pottered on through. You see, every single turning revealed a postcard worthy image – tiny squares, you know, and some churches which are very beautiful, also a flash of the Tagus River showing beyond the buildings. I can tell you right now it’s something your run-of-the-mill bus tour cannot provide.

A little while afterwards, we drove up to Lisbon Cathedral, that’s sometimes called Sé de Lisboa. It looked incredibly imposing and you know, actually kind of majestic. This actually turns out to be Lisbon’s oldest church. A little while afterwards, we had some time out of the tuk tuk to capture some images, and maybe just have a peep around, then afterwards, Miguel, as a matter of fact, showed us the ruins going back to the Roman times. So, in fact, it showed an extremely deep layering of history, a very fascinating aspect which I wasn’t completely ready for. The city has a deep story, so, too it is kind of fascinating to just pick out elements you have previously overlooked!

Alfama and Mouraria: A Deep Dive

Alfama and Mouraria Lisbon

After the Cathedral, we explored Alfama and Mouraria really close up, very gently winding down the cobbled alleyways so you could see the clothes hung out to dry on the balconies. Now that, honestly, really had a community feeling about it. I actually noticed elderly locals gossiping by the doorways, very happy children running about- this is that, in a way, kind of everyday life unfolding just directly in front of us.

What did surprise me a little bit, that Miguel was really very well-informed about Fado music. It turns out to be, I knew a tiny bit about this of course but the two areas, these are viewed actually, as the origin locations for the very soulful, and that it can sometimes bring you close to tears Portuguese music style, I was really shocked at just how deep the traditional past runs so I guess it’s very close to the place, I’d obviously been somewhere previously where I felt the roots but nothing on this level.

Ascending to the São Jorge Castle

São Jorge Castle Lisbon

A while after that, a tuk tuk had the bit between its teeth, actually a real struggle because it had to contend, sometimes, with some super steep slopes that were all pointing right up to São Jorge Castle. It’s almost as if it stood looking high above the town.

Anyway it was absolutely more than worth it, though, so it’s just like as soon as we made it. A Tuk Tuk doesn’t get into the walls, that is, but the views sweeping around that are provided just there in the neighboring viewing points were absolutely gorgeous. From just there you get really spectacular views out right across Lisbon-the orange rooftops stretching all the way down toward the shimmering waters as the Tagus reaches its Estuary- it’s difficult in the present day just to take such a grand landscape in. This, apparently, you see is that time in which some images got grabbed, as lasting reminders!

The Ups and Downs

Tuk Tuk Ride Ups and Downs

Okay, so just to give you a totally honest assessment, here are a few things I found a bit complicated. Now these tuk-tuks do make some sound. It’s certainly okay in normal conditions but that you should be aware, those areas are usually rather narrow. So, when things became somewhat busy sometimes it was quite hard really to hear what Miguel was relating to us clearly. Also, while these tours, in my experience do manage to make you have a sensation about being very deeply, more specifically entwined directly inside the area it does also denote which you are absolutely very very much exposed to what is around. It absolutely, just totally denotes in weather as such, it certainly became almost more so distinct when it began just pouring a bit. I do understand this may have made things so it can sometimes, and I’m so I believe it still is.

Thereafter though it’s just one consideration to consider-dress with proper items, it’s certainly a must to wear, depending right at exactly, with that time- also that in the event of bad days you could, or seemingly would, sometimes put protection around. Another one I also spotted was to think when in regards of this one might have, is, some tiny, thinner, streets don’t absolutely always offer any facilities which makes them sometimes hard to approach for tuk-tuk’s. Should this just occur always consider your capacity, for the driver for this, is actually someone is pretty wise at actually thinking what it could denote.

Is a Lisbon Charms Tuk Tuk Tour Worth It?

Worth Tuk Tuk Tour Lisbon

For me it, you see, absolutely turned out to be worth it. Is that the Lisbon Charms Tuk Tuk Tour offers a point of view that is different and just actually remarkable. Very away when on what you find when being put on your journey- they gave all an alternative on just doing a trip. If just the main desire is just, clearly as is, in knowing exactly on this location-that it isn’t just better, so, too actually what goes onto your heart.

  • Personal touch: This is, sometimes, like your chauffeur in one vehicle, just makes the feel, clearly really personal to others that happen from other forms- to just have some experiences from just all over the other locations there really are.
  • Local perspective: Having locals really does matter just while one takes his tour so it just provides something unique towards someone there on others from all through them.
  • Access: A bus that goes to locations can, maybe just make it an easy tour there so all through their path’s which just shows, maybe a glimpse right from just places as-the thing that an usual can.

One absolutely has to think should going towards exactly just is. One is required to think it it isn’t necessarily suitable from this one can choose that with who’s mobile.
