Ho Chi Minh City Late Night Bus Tour: Detailed Review

If you are after experiencing Ho Chi Minh City in a completely different way, then, a nighttime bus tour could be just what you’re after. We thought we’d take this opportunity to, well, let you know what we found. We want to tell you all about this option for seeing some well-known places after the sun has set.

First Impressions: Getting Ready for the Night Tour

The excitement that comes from hopping onto a brightly colored, open-top bus as darkness settles in is very special. Finding the meeting spot was easy enough, it’s almost always near a main street close to where a load of the hotels are. It could be said that getting there a bit before the stated departure is usually a good idea. This approach is pretty good since it then means grabbing a good seat. I reckon, the best seats, if you can grab them, are up top to take in all the lovely open air.

One other good point is that when we jumped on the bus the guide handed each person a headset, it meant we could dial in to whatever language we felt most easy with for all the commentary during the trip. So, too it was actually super useful to get information about all the different landmarks that we drove past. It made you understand things a little bit more, you see.

Must-See Spots: The Sights You’ll Take In

During the drive around Ho Chi Minh City, we passed some great-looking places, all lit up nicely. One highlight that springs to mind is seeing Notre-Dame Cathedral, is that its French architecture seemed grander and really special against the dark evening skies. I’m sure it is the lighting, you see.

The Reunification Palace, really important because of what it stands for in the more recent story of Vietnam, looks superb, is that its gardens look peaceful in the evening calm, giving you pause to reflect, that it does, even as you’re zipping by on a bus.

Going past the Saigon Opera House, actually pretty striking with the lights pointing upwards, offers, in some respects, a lovely moment for taking photos. Just try to have your camera or phone pretty well set up for the low light and take loads of pictures. It is better to take many and choose later, too it’s better than getting nothing due to one quick click that does not come out well, is that true? Also, you will go right past the Ho Chi Minh City Hall; a beautiful example, so it would seem, of French colonial architecture and history right there on show.

Experiencing Local Life: Markets and More

There’s something truly great about seeing local life at night, particularly in a city that never sleeps, in some respects. We swung by Ben Thanh Market and saw a load of sellers setting up stalls. You can tell straight away, that it’s where the locals get all kinds of great dishes and bits and pieces. So, too it makes you want to come back and check it out properly during the day to wander and see what’s there. It does though, apparently, get really jam packed.

On one occasion, our bus actually made a brief stop, in some respects, which meant that some people could quickly nip off and see certain spots a little better. Even if you don’t actually have loads of time, a quick look at a local market can really offer, more or less, an insight into the rhythm of the place.

Food and Entertainment: Tasting the City

So, if you are considering the bus tour, what is pretty good to know is that you might find opportunities to try out a couple of the tasty local treats, too it’s all down to the kind of tour package, you see. Some companies will stop, actually pretty amazing of them, at spots where everyone can get food right from the vendors on the pavement.

Imagine, that you’re sitting on the top of the bus, when you tuck into, like your, a Banh Mi. That is, as a matter of fact, some pretty tasty street food – that’s really something that brings a memory, anyway.

You could also have, at the end of the trip, so to speak, live music from some of the cafes you pass; if you feel like hearing and seeing a little more, that, arguably, is just a hop off the bus to check it out.

Is It Worth It? Who Should Take This Tour?

So, too the late night bus tour, in some respects, could be the way to see the popular sights in HCMC if you happen to not have tons of time. Basically, it lets you see quite a few landmarks when they are brightly lit and the air feels a lot cooler.

It could well suit individuals on vacation, so it would seem, small families, or people traveling on their own; it’s, in a way, is that really a laid-back introduction that does not take up too much energy. In some respects, even those who struggle to get about should find it is well, alright.

That being said, however, should you really prefer to get right in amongst things or see quieter streets at your own pace, the open bus tour may well not really be your best shout. Yet, you should take a walk, then again, with some well-known streets that come alive as things cool down towards dusk, this would give another great viewpoint.
