Full Review: Baku Gabala Shamakhi Day Tour – Is it Worth It?
Are you looking at booking a day trip out of Baku that lets you see more of what Azerbaijan offers? Perhaps the “Baku Gabala Shamakhi Full Day Tour” has popped up in your search. A trip promises to deliver a full experience of the nation’s diverse landscapes and historical spots, that one sounds enticing, isn’t it? That being said, it’s important to consider what you get for your money. I will talk about my own experience, getting into the specifics of what you will encounter, what you will enjoy, and maybe, just maybe, what might make you think twice before clicking that “book now” button.
What’s the Big Idea with this Baku-Gabala-Shamakhi Tour?
Alright, so at its heart, the Baku-Gabala-Shamakhi outing sells you a full day of taking in three different regions, that too all in the space of approximately twelve hours. I mean, just consider the geography! The focus of this package, quite understandably, leans very heavily on Gabala, a destination known for its beautiful nature spots way up in the mountains. Shamakhi and some sights right around there offer a more brief experience on the route. Expect to encounter places such as the historical Juma Mosque and the intriguing Mausoleum of Diri Baba. In short, if your intention is to snap plenty of photos and say, “Yeah, I saw that part of Azerbaijan,” well this could actually be a great shout for you.
However, and just to keep things totally upfront, it is a really packed outing. Lots of hours are taken up with the driving. While you will get glimpses of various corners of Azerbaijan, don’t expect, I reckon, to form any really profound bonds with any of the specific destinations along the way. This is, more or less, a whistle-stop kind of experience.
The Upsides: Stunning Views and Photo Opportunities
There are definite high points that made the trip rather pleasant, truth be told. Gabala, especially, that tends to stick in my mind. In a way, the views of the Caucasus Mountains were really amazing, you see? It is very tempting to stop every five minutes to capture the fantastic scenes on camera. Nohur Lake, an other spot featured on our trip, also stood out, and in my own humble opinion it looked extremely picturesque, nestled so perfectly among the mountains.
For anyone who likes Instagram-style shots or simply capturing your travels, you’ll find many such opportunities on this tour, wouldn’t you say? I suppose just be aware that these will mostly be very fleeting visits. A few minutes here, a few minutes there… then you are back in the minibus. All of these spots feel like appetizers, tasty as can be, except you won’t be getting a full meal at any one place.
Downsides: Long Hours on the Road
Now for the tougher bit: let’s talk about the main issue. The driving… There are many hours in that minibus, that is clear, as a matter of fact. While Azerbaijan’s scenery might grab your attention initially, there is the definite risk that car fatigue will set in hard. Plus, depending on your particular driver, you can end up feeling rather rushed. I’d say that mine kept to a very tight schedule, which, it can be argued, did ensure we ticked off all of the stops. I just ended up feeling more or less constantly stressed about time, right?
If long journeys in cars do you in or if you like taking things a bit slower and you want to hang around for a while at sites, think hard about whether you would really enjoy this trip. Just picture this: four or even five hours, simply looking out of the windows. And honestly? Parts of that drive will not provide views worthy of postcards either, is that right?
Food and Drink: Pack Your Snacks!
Concerning meals, your trip likely only incorporates a lunch stop. And even then, you’re responsible for footing the bill. I would certainly suggest taking some snacks with you. That way, at least, you are covered as a backup plan for when those hunger pangs appear, right? On our outing, we ate at a place beside Nohur Lake. It’s picturesque. To tell the truth though, it was really touristy and certainly felt overpriced, that said, with food, I’ve come to find it to be the name of the
You also could use that to get adventurous with cuisine from Azerbaijan. See what you can find there. If the trip schedule puts you off this plan? Get yourself stocked up from a supermarket within Baku beforehand. Just a suggestion for your planning…
Is the Baku Gabala Shamakhi Tour “Worth It”?
Okay, this is the million-dollar query. So, is signing up for the Baku Gabala Shamakhi Full Day Outing cash well spent? Is it a decent experience overall? Basically, I suppose, this all depends so much on your personal expectations and your style of travel. For sightseers, who are mainly driven to sweep through the sights and gather snapshots to showcase different places, it definitely has its draws. You get to glimpse so much of Azerbaijan’s land in just one day. That has appeal, without a doubt. However, let’s just bear in mind those super-lengthy car hours and very quick site visits.
But what if slow travel vibes is a priority? Then probably you may wish to rent your own car and travel at your own rhythm. Or think about going on smaller mini-trips centering solely on one region each time, would you agree?
For me, the adventure felt a tad rushed. Those scenes, particularly at Gabala, were amazing and the Mausoleum of Diri Baba turned out to be rather interesting too, you see? It simply felt such a pity not being given greater freedom at either location.
Therefore, my suggestion is be very clear regarding what you truly want from such a tour. If the aim is racking up many locations rapidly, then go ahead. On the flip side though, if you appreciate immersing completely and at a slower rate? You may wish to look at alternatives.
So, here’s the short version:
- Amazing Views: Gabala and Nohur Lake will provide outstanding opportunities to take photographs.
- Lots of travel: The hours spent traveling in the car are huge. Bring entertainment along with you.
- Quick Stops: Almost expect just enough time to view key locations and grab a snapshot before it is time to move on.
- Consider options for food and drink: Do not depend too heavily on spontaneous eating places; bring along emergency provisions.
- Know what to expect: This outing ideally serves people wanting snapshots of places. You must moderate expectations for real exploration and lingering in places.
Anyway, by choosing smartly? Azerbaijan will offer memories to cherish no matter what style best suits your trip!
