Buzios Schooner Boat Trip: Honest Review and Tips

Buzios, Brazil is quite a beautiful peninsula known for its amazing beaches, crystal-clear waters, and really vibrant atmosphere. One of the most loved activities there’s almost definitely a schooner boat trip. Many tours go for roughly 2 to 5 hours, and they typically stop at several popular beaches and islands, offering chances for swimming and snorkeling. I actually booked mine a few days in advance, which I kind of recommend, most especially during peak season, to secure a spot and avoid missing out or anything.

Now, getting on the boat was somewhat of a little chaotic. I mean, the departure point was fairly in the heart of Buzios, kind of near the main pier. So, when you are told to be there 30 mins prior to departure, make sure you arrive on time, very to find your boat, because there are many. Basically, it was quite crowded with what seemed to be several boats leaving at around the same time. I needed to ask a couple of staff to make sure I was on the accurate one; just something to keep in mind, really!

The Route: Beaches and Bays Galore

So, the best thing is, the route is what sells this trip, in a way. Typically, the schooner travels along the coast, very visiting well-known beaches like Praia da Tartaruga, João Fernandes, and Praia da Azeda. Basically, we got to stop at three or four places, which for me was kind of great. And the views, just picture this: crystal blue waters, you know, with green hills surrounding you, too it’s almost like something from a postcard, is that not so?

Praia da Tartaruga: Famous because of its calm waters, this is that great spot for swimming and it tends to be ideal for families with youngsters. The boat stopped here long enough that arguably you could take a dip.
João Fernandes: This has slightly more action, you see, with many kiosks and water sports on offer. As a matter of fact, we saw people kayaking and paddle-boarding too it’s almost like a whole different world here!.
Praia da Azeda/Azedinha: Two quite smaller beaches that are beautiful. What with the clear waters and smooth sands, they might be ideal spots to snorkel.

Life On Board: What’s It Really Like?

So, what is it like actually chilling on the boat for a couple of hours? Most of these schooners, you know, can accommodate somewhere between 50 to 100 folks. Yet, it can actually feel a bit packed, most especially if the tour is rather full, that arguably ours was, or so it seemed to me! So, expect to potentially be bumping elbows a bit.

That said, the ambiance is mostly kind of fun and social. You see, the crew tends to play music, varying anything from Brazilian beats to some classic pop tunes. Also, on our tour they tended to have a bar on board selling drinks and a few snacks, arguably for reasonable prices I thought. Also, depending on the boat, very they will typically have snorkeling gear provided free of charge too it’s almost as if that has all been taken care of for you.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add! Don’t go and expect a quiet ride! So, people are chatting, taking photos, laughing; so if that doesn’t sound like you then you may feel as though this isn’t the excursion you imagined. If peace and quiet is key, perhaps there is the possibility of checking out smaller boat options such as catamarans or yachts. You know, these probably are rather costly but in contrast would be something you may want to contemplate depending on what’s most vital to you.

Snorkeling and Swimming: Is it Worth It?

The stops to snorkel and swim were actually one of my favorites! So, the water is pretty clear, basically letting you get a look at some neat sea life. Still, make sure you are self-assured with being in the water before you jump in there, or so I advise you.

What Could be Improved?

So, that said, nothing is spot on! If I did possess one thing to complain about, you see, it was that at times it actually felt a bit rushed. Like your average boat is actually on a strict timeline to stay on schedule. Because they are following this schedule it doesn’t let you absorb as much time on any single beach that potentially you might fancy. When the boat stops some places, that you might just be getting comfortable before needing to be hauled back onto the boat. This wasn’t a problem on all beaches but I’m just offering honest and impartial observations, naturally.

Another point is actually, the quality of the snorkeling gear differed. Mine felt that old, almost worn. And others experienced something like misted up goggles too it’s almost never clear! Basically, checking it or even taking yours might be something that arguably makes for a better experience. Most certainly it doesn’t help when you are finding it difficult to see the fishes. Though, it is that not a complete deal breaker to the value.

Who is this Boat Trip Perfect For?

Basically, this trip could be great for a mix of folks. In fact, you may find it a winner if:

You know, it isn’t perfect, actually there are always trade offs when experiencing something similar, even though in general, I believe it tends to be worth doing. If I was to come back, I believe I would think of possibly experiencing something far more luxurious (maybe renting your own boat), but on your average budget it is that decent and arguably the best bang for your buck too it’s almost like something you shouldn’t be missing!.
