I took this trip not so long ago and figured I’d share my thoughts, what I enjoyed, and well, what I think could’ve been even better. Is that a good idea or not? Too often, these yachts usually aren’t your average sailboat; is that spacious, and furnished for comfort, with areas for lounging in the sun, very refined cabins, and all those things. As a matter of fact, many also have a dedicated crew – is that a captain, a chef, and maybe even a few deckhands – who make sure you’re comfy, safe, and have everything that you might need. Seriously, the idea is total relaxation and having fun.

Now, it’s almost important to talk about itinerary options. We booked one that specifically toured the Amalfi Coast, hitting iconic spots like Positano and Amalfi, and of course, Capri. Then there is Positano, arguably, that spot you see in all the photos, is probably even more spectacular in person. The village seems to cascade down the hillside in a riot of colors, and coming by yacht, you do avoid that crazy road traffic. That said, we dropped anchor in a small bay and took a tender boat ashore – felt very VIP, you know?

Capri? Basically, Capri is something different. As a matter of fact, the island has an energy all its own, that’s all, between the Blue Grotto, the Faraglioni rocks sticking out from the sea, and the upscale shopping in Capri town. Arriving by yacht means you can take in these sights in comfort and then head straight to the Marina Grande, dodging the crowded ferries. I mean, that’s pretty amazing, right?

The Yacht Life: Comfort, Cuisine, and Crew

Let’s consider the experience that makes or breaks a trip like this – very often the service onboard. Depending on that yacht, the level of luxury could be outstanding. From sunbeds and high end sound systems to fancy dining areas. Very cool.

Food? That’s where it gets good. Our yacht had its very own chef, which is typical, so the meals were a highlight of each day. It seems that every dish was freshly prepared, mostly using stuff from the area, that varied from seafood pasta to light lunches with that view of the sea. Of course, it’s possible to tell the chef what you would like to eat and they work their magic to make you as happy as possible.

And that crew, you know? Is that just as essential as the yacht itself. Our captain knew the coast inside and out, finding secluded swimming spots and small caves to explore. Plus, that staff went over and above to ensure we had everything that we needed, from iced drinks to fresh towels after a swim. It’s like your own private floating hotel, where you are treated like a VIP.

OK, so while I basically painted a stunning picture, it is also useful to keep a few things that may need considering to keep things straight forward. To start with, cost. Yacht charters can be expensive. As a matter of fact, it really depends on the length of that yacht, the time of year, and how many people are coming with you, of course, but anticipate spending some serious dough. It almost feels like being worth every single dollar, but do some research and see what’s best.

Then there is the timing. Is that that Amalfi Coast is something else in the summer, so it can get very busy, mainly in July and August. We opted for late spring, specifically, and early summer and found that weather to be wonderful, and fewer crowds too it’s almost that. Maybe look into these shoulder months to possibly have the same experience. Next!

A fantastic break to do with a small party. Maybe. Families hunting for something special, for sure. Romantic breaks that simply can’t be beaten.

But, it’s almost right to say that if you don’t like boats, maybe you are sensitive to them, or would rather prefer to visit landmarks a whole lot more this trip might not fit, you know? I still recall many travellers really love an “all on board” or perhaps action led break where this has quite a relaxed pace, for sure.

The magic about these trips is not simply travelling across the ocean, it means that the entire day looks utterly breath taking. When that Sun illuminates Amalfi it appears like Heaven.
