Akureyri, Myvatn & Godafoss Tour Review: Is it Worth it?

So, are you perhaps dreaming of Iceland and, like, wondering if a day trip to Akureyri, Myvatn, and Godafoss is actually worthwhile? You know, that scenic loop up north? Well, I recently checked it out, and, honestly, I’m eager to share my experience with you. Very truly, I hope to give you some proper insight. The experience that I got was truly exceptional and the whole journey did nothing, but surpass my expectation to see some of the natural beauties that can only be found in Iceland, very similar to the ones that you see on the postcards.

What Makes this Tour Different, you know?

Too it’s almost, like, every tour company offers something slightly different. It might be good to talk about what sets this particular small group adventure apart from, in a way, the bigger bus tours that are available. Seriously, the reduced group size made a pretty massive impact. What I mean is, there was a maximum of, like, 12 people, and it was truly comfortable. I’m serious. Very different than being sardined into a big coach. Frankly, you get far more personal attention, and also the schedule remains far more adjustable as it tends to cater directly to everyone involved. Also, very handy! Instead of herding crowds, the guide seemed to engage everyone’s personal tastes so that we could linger longer where we found something interesting and wanted to experience, that. This difference alone, for instance, is something that could tip the scales for you whether or not you can take a guided group adventure!

It’s almost as if these kinds of adventures allow more engagement from everybody that participates; not that there isn’t also the problem with maybe dealing with too many people’s ideas which will invariably pull at different angles in time and energy as they become competing interest amongst people who may not share that sort of perspective so it’s maybe worth really understanding and also considering the group tour that one is doing at large.

Akureyri: More than Just a Pretty Town?

First stop is actually Akureyri, sometimes called Iceland’s “Northern Capital,” so I found out. It’s not just any old stop along the route. To be honest, I thought that the town, with, like, its colorful houses and botanical gardens, gave a great glimpse into Icelandic town life. The guide, actually, gave us a brief run-through of the town’s history, which, like, I found surprisingly gripping. Seriously, do wander around a little here – get a feel for, well, just the relaxed vibe. Then, you will find your place to get some photos or grab, you know, a coffee and a pastry somewhere that can bring joy.

Maybe you might think that it seems to offer something completely different from the starkly attractive landscapes we were setting out to explore in all of Iceland. Yet, actually, Akureyri complements it perfectly. Basically, the tour, perhaps, uses Akureyri like this fantastic spot where one can relax so that you feel that you have explored something, but you have somewhere where you know that, alright, you can then sit down and you don’t feel that it’s rushing so, in that case, the guide tends to adjust so that everything can be perfect.

Myvatn’s Volcanic Wonders: More Than Meets the Eye

Alright, now, Myvatn. Myvatn is honestly otherworldly. Right away, you’ll spot how volcanic activity molded the area and made something so attractive. Dimmuborgir, a collection of dark lava formations, gives the area an edge to it; in other words, a dramatic atmosphere. The guide explained just how these formations came to exist after that volcanic eruption, you know. Plus, Myvatn is almost bird paradise, especially when visiting in the summer, actually. Therefore, if you’re even just a little into bird watching, you might, maybe, wish to carry a pair of binoculars, to be honest! I sure would.

It goes to show that, actually, it provides many of the more intense physical geography that Iceland seems to have going for it; also too, the thing is that the volcanoes that surround all these areas are probably one of the most beautiful and more stunning attributes to these locations, since it makes them unique locations that you cannot find very often that will really allow some enjoyment, where people tend to capture photos and have many more lasting memories than any that may not come out from different sites.

The Myvatn Nature Baths: Worth the Stop?

The Myvatn Nature Baths, so they’re often called the “Blue Lagoon of the North,” but they’re less crowded. Do think about including them in the trip! Like, imagine sinking into soothing geothermal waters with views all around you; basically, the lava fields stretch away into the horizon. Just a little disclaimer, that: while I didn’t go to these specific baths because, you know, of time, several in my group did, yet they came back absolutely glowing, telling everyone about their awesome relaxing experiences. Arguably, perhaps make time in the schedule for this and take a towel with you!

Maybe Myvatn Nature Baths are completely special and can very likely create a one-of-a-kind sensation, similar to the South’s Blue Lagoon, which gets all the publicity. What tends to happen is that not many will get the same crowds in that space in the north. It is more than enough to feel as if it can offer and supply more enjoyment on a less-crowded experience overall; since not many tend to know about this as being the secret spot.

Godafoss: The Waterfall of the Gods

Godafoss Waterfall – it’s really majestic! It is almost like that the name, literally translates to “Waterfall of the Gods,” and honestly, it, like, lives up to the hype. The glacial water plummets into the river below in some real powerful display, in my opinion. Also, what’s awesome is, like, you can walk all around different vantage points that provide fantastic photo opportunities. Honestly, I actually found myself sitting there longer than I thought just to take in the beauty; it almost felt like that nature’s cathedral was made up for that moment. Also the stories of it were also told to us and what tends to occur over it made it so it tends to almost have a presence as we were just appreciating and viewing. As such, do take your time here.

The waters look incredible, especially when considering what happened and, frankly, what Iceland’s physical attributes gave as one admires what all their Gods may be enjoying as water pours into some river that flows. Just to bring peace so as it flows in such harmony that does not clash to much in that natural atmosphere for anyone viewing and wanting to appreciate something that others will often tell about.

Food and Drink: What to Expect?

It’s a thing, really, to wonder about food on a day tour. In general, most tours don’t offer included lunches, so plan accordingly. So what? Think about packing a snack and a water bottle; therefore, you’ll be all set while on the move. And, in Akureyri, the guide did bring us to this neat little cafe so as to, maybe, quickly grab sandwiches and pastries and coffees and whatnot so everyone could grab something along their own wishes, you know. Anyway, for a truly local experience, do dare to try the Icelandic hot dog; really good!

This can perhaps affect everyone with that feeling to maybe feel a bit light in the sense of well-being to not take such snacks into consideration. I would actually recommend such places; but that all varies on the nature of one’s experience. I always appreciate what can happen from any potential change that varies on everyone.

Photography Tips: Capture the Magic

Okay, if, maybe, you’re into taking photos, Northern Iceland has, in a way, just endless opportunities. So keep a camera around, always. Really, Godafoss should probably feature as the first in the lineup because there will never be a limit for all these amazing shots. Now, too it’s almost something when taking pictures on sunny days compared to gloomy conditions. Because you will capture distinct moods. Cloudy weather makes Godafoss look all moodier and dramatic; however, in good light, the colors genuinely just pop. Actually, at Myvatn, it’s worthy, really, to photograph, almost, the textures and patterns of the lava fields, too; experiment, really.

Even while you consider doing this during the course of what seems like a completely normal average trip. If, maybe, some can have the privilege in even considering a photographic type opportunity while in a place like Myvatn with a bunch of its volcanic beauty that makes that unique look amongst everywhere around Iceland.

What to Wear: Being Prepared

Honestly, that Icelandic weather’s almost like famously unpredictable; basically, layer up! Think thermal underwear, sweaters, as well as that waterproof outer shell. That, basically, means hiking boots should do the trick too! Very honestly, at Godafoss, the spray may make you moist a bit, so a rain jacket is extremely great to carry. A warm hat plus gloves too! Just so as you want that maximum comfort level.

Very cool that it will probably make a change for things as some may feel they wish and may not feel prepared for what might ever happen but with everything there may be chances. With weather not guaranteed, it should come as no surprise how everything else might need adjustment to such potential effects.

Is This Tour Right for You? A Quick Breakdown

So, at the end of it, this Akureyri, Myvatn, and Godafoss adventure tends to work out super awesome so long as:

• You really do appreciate a more personal tour adventure, not a massively packed group deal.
• The user is pressed with sufficient time; this basically gives you some real core aspects in Northern Iceland in merely one single day.
• If they like awesome geology and nature landscapes more or less; the landscape around Myvatn seems pretty special, and those waterfalls bring some truly massive pleasure.

Basically, however, if you truly just do not appreciate longer days in transit; you tend to spend large portions on the move, or perhaps you desire lots of down-time when you are at each spot, that tour will prove stressful, and may perhaps need one to stay at those spots independently.

Perhaps thinking for that singular trip in mind there can often be some really neat factors. It really works for others if what they enjoy can make it the utmost and greatest of the whole travel that they end up joining.

What were some things I really loved about the tour?

• The guide was awesome! – He or she always had some kind of funny story, but at times there would also be some really crazy and serious insights into so much of Iceland’s landscape, culture and folklore; even for things unrelated. I just tend to want that from all that kind of guiding from everybody there!
• Comfort and also the small groups! – Not being too crammed really can lead up to a relaxing day! The way it seemed I would think made something amazing!
• The sights! – Well they truly were spectacular to experience! The spots really should not get lost to anyone. And really seeing some place like Iceland as one considers traveling!
