Private Trip Review: Munich to Rothenburg & Harburg

I’m walking us through my recent private day outing from Munich to Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Harburg, just to give you my view on it all. Setting Off: The Initial Leg From Munich

My adventure started bright and, like, so early from Munich. So, I opted for a private trip to skip the usual bus tours thing, that could be quite a herd sometimes, right? Rothenburg ob der Tauber: A Step Into The Past

And after driving, that seemed fairly okay, you then get to Rothenburg, or more officially, Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The whole place is encircled by old walls. Walking in there, that, actually, really feels like time got reversed. Those buildings still stand. What I saw, well it looked as if they plucked it straight out of a history book, if that makes sense?

One really cool bit? That was getting to wander around Marktplatz, which, well, it’s the town square. What stands out the most is that mechanical clock at the Rathaus, or maybe Town Hall. At different times, the clock chimes to show off, like, this ‘Meistertrunk’ scene – apparently an old story. Legend has it, someone had to drink, maybe, a whole big jug of wine all at once, this action stopped the town getting sacked. It sounds amazing. That kind of lore brings those places truly to life, just to note.

Then, after that town square visit, I decided I would actually visit St. Jakob’s Church, you know? It’s a very special place. I wanted to have a gander, so I got on over there. This spot has some stuff, I am sure, and one that seemed so incredibly attractive was The Holy Blood Altar by Tilman Riemenschneider, one guy that seemed to create pretty cool items. So, really, that wood art really stopped me. Also, just taking a casual wander down those cobblestone streets and checking out the interesting shopfronts can totally captivate you.

But then I learned a bit that maybe others would like. You can apparently climb the Town Hall tower. The whole area offers this really gorgeous, all-encompassing view of, well, pretty much all of Rothenburg. This bird’s-eye angle lets someone see this city sprawling down beneath you. Plus, I would note to see those little orange tile roofs lined up next to each other, or clustered around, just to notice, so it’s worthwhile for anyone looking.

Something I really liked, perhaps some folks wouldn’t notice? Just grabbing local foods, that’s actually what stuck in my memory, maybe a bit. I went and sampled some Schneeballen, that one that looks like a snowball made of fried dough. Every café and shop actually serves them, it’s really almost difficult to not find, and just grabbing a quick treat lets you get a grip on local eats as well as the place.

Harburg: Discovering A Hidden Gem

And after that I was ready to go to Harburg, a spot, maybe many skip. I thought, too, what the hey, a little Harburg wasn’t too tough for me. Here? I found a medieval castle, something I liked, almost towering, pretty high on this hill. As such, Harburg Castle brings on a solid photo scene.

During the area walking tour, I picked up how that castle changed. So, as my guide shared bits, some of the rooms displayed period swag, while others really kept that old, strong look from way back when. As well, finding cool smaller beer parks, possibly during Harburg, provides one spot for people trying local beer, to taste. Local brewers could potentially serve items at these zones too which lets one savor just German beer and, therefore, also get yourself connected along small company folk through one area.
