West Crete Itinerary: Heraklion, Chania & Rethymno Travel Guide

Planning a trip to Crete, Greece? You might be especially wanting to see the western side of this magical island. A popular itinerary is to cover Heraklion, Chania, Lake Kournas, and Rethymno. This part of Crete truly has a lot to offer, with something to appeal to every type of traveler. Heraklion: The Gateway to Crete

Chania: Venetian Charm and Coastal Beauty

Chania, which is to the west of Heraklion, so has an almost totally different feel. You might be feeling that this city has a much stronger Venetian influence. The beaches are pretty decent in Rethymno also. The main beach goes on for kilometers, that stretches way east from the town, with loads of space for everybody, or that is what some say. Many smaller, more secluded spots can actually be found if you head just a bit farther afield. So you can seek out your own piece of quiet, that is possible. Enjoy fresh seafood, basically Rethymno has lots of great restaurants, mainly in the old harbor.
