What Exactly *Is* ‘Up Close and Personal’?

The show, it is in a way, a pretty unique blend of a couple of things. We’re talking about stories, music, and a certain intimacy that I just wasn’t quite expecting, that really sets it apart from many a big, flashy Vegas show. Is that what you think of as a traditional concert? So, probably not. Mr. Newton sort of just talks to you. I mean, he sings too, that should be clear. He answers questions from the crowd too, which you could even find a little risky, right?

The Venue: Caesar’s Palace, of Course

So, Caesar’s Palace, right, is more or less a cornerstone of Las Vegas glamour. It’s kind of amazing, really, with its architecture and those giant statues. As I was saying, the venue is almost definitely part of the overall experience. Very lush. Anyway, it’s just the perfect spot, maybe even a symbolic spot, for Wayne Newton and his show, ‘Up Close and Personal’ at that.

The Music: Hits and a Bit of Heart

Obviously, you expect to hear the hits, very much, and Wayne Newton delivers. You will, alright, almost certainly hear “Danke Schoen,” for instance. In fact, you absolutely *will*. Beyond the, you know, iconic songs, the music actually feels secondary to the stories, yet very crucial. So, that’s, I don’t know, what makes the whole evening actually, or arguably, kind of endearing and maybe even genuinely memorable. Like your favorite uncle decided to get up on stage.

The Stories: Tales From a Vegas Legend

Really, this is just where the show makes its name. So, Wayne Newton, right, tells stories about his life, his career, and his interactions with, well, literally everybody famous who ever existed. We’re talking about tales of hanging out with Sinatra, getting advice from Elvis, that type of story. As a matter of fact, that sort of insight into the golden age of Vegas is very unique, maybe just completely captivating, and perhaps that is what separates it from almost everything else currently being offered. And there’s footage to go along with the stories too, by the way.

The Q&A: Unexpectedly Engaging, Maybe?

I will say, that is where Wayne, so to speak, really shines, kind of. So, the Q&A part of the evening can be a little unpredictable. Alright, I guess people ask all sorts of things. Very random. Still, Mr. Newton handles it all gracefully, with a certain charm, and some jokes thrown in there, too. I mean, his openness basically invites some jokes. So, I thought that made him all the more engaging, and almost genuine, to be honest.

Is It Worth It?: The Verdict

For those who love Wayne Newton or just want to see a proper piece of Vegas history up close, ‘Up Close and Personal’ is pretty amazing. I guess it’s worth the cost of the ticket, especially if you are a longtime fan. Basically, it’s more of a conversation than just some concert, that allows a different view into, just maybe, an amazing career.
