The Watervale Hotel. Quite the well-regarded spot. A proper icon. Seems like everyone, that is to say, a lot of people who pass through the Clare Valley rave about it. So, too, when a chance came up to test out their two-course dining deal that included a glass of Riesling, well, you know, it seemed silly not to give it a crack. The goal? That is to say, the only purpose, was to see if the food really holds up to the chatter. After all, there is chatter, that is, things get said for any restaurant or place, isn’t there? Could this be some of that? Could this be good? Turns out, only one method uncovers the facts when something sparks our interest, and that is to experience it first hand. Anyway, let’s get right into it.

First Impressions: Stepping Back In Time

Pulling up to the Watervale Hotel really does feel like you’re heading, like, back to a very specific spot. The old building, very well kept up and full of character, you know, sort of pops against the backdrop of the, sort of, rolling hills that are, you see, there about the Clare Valley. You notice this the instant you lay eyes on it. Inside, it’s got this cozy, inviting feel that makes it seem perfect for anything that might bring one there. Perhaps, to sample the area’s eats and drinks, or maybe just to have a chat. Or maybe both. I mean, why not? The staff, apparently the people who make the place really sing, is friendly and all smiles; very fast too. As I was saying, they got us seated very fast and with no fuss at all. No complaints there. All the preliminary signs? I am just saying, they all check out fine.

The Riesling: A Taste of the Region

The Riesling itself, included in the deal, and all, that is to say it’s right there as part of the offer. It represents the region. A true gem. Typically, you get that lovely citrus and floral thing going on. So, a solid pour to get started with, which might be the reason I feel pretty good. The wine’s, very pleasing balance made it great either enjoyed all by itself or as a companion to food that might be coming in time. Now that’s what I would consider an excellent thing.

Alright, the part everyone waits for. Anyway, about the food itself, the star attractions and why people visit, as I was saying: you select any two courses from across their regular menu, with plenty to pick. It just depends. It seemed a cool way to get to test out a bit more of their offerings without feeling as though, that is, without actually making the full commitment to a bigger, longer experience.

Course One: The Appetizer

I kicked things off with, really, one of their starter options, in fact the first, from what I saw. This small dish turned out to be surprisingly flavorful. Not much more to say there except I, and, you, might think about starting there, also. This choice acted a little bit like a preview of what was ahead of me in terms of their culinary style, that is what the chef does.

Course Two: The Main Event

For the main event, I ended up going for one of their dishes which features a cut of whatever animal, it could be a cow or anything really, along with the sort of veggies they happened to select to go with. Anyway, cooked pretty nice, and that seemed to bring out its real character, if you understand what I mean. The sides played a part, too. I guess they, too, had great flavor. Also very pretty. Really balanced, which made it all taste even better, almost. Anyway, this seemed just like the star, of the evening. If you think I am exaggerating, then you will think I am exaggerating, but not really. It seemed amazing, but it really did not go further than that. To my knowledge anyway.

Ambiance and Service: The Complete Package

Beyond just the eats, the ambiance and the service contributed a ton to, that is they went into the whole vibe. You, and maybe some people too, want it cozy. You want it comfy. At the Watervale Hotel, you will get all of that. All good. The team that they, meaning the owners and managers, hire and select, they are very attentive and have a knack for, you see, sort of making you feel very taken care of; there is always someone, I guess, on hand to attend to anything, in a jiffy. Just in case. This is how it works. From beginning to end. Like, if it’s the start or if it is goodbye.

At the close of it all, is this offer worth it? Well, if, or in case, you wish to taste several bites without burning all that many bills. In this aspect, yeah, for sure. If you want something that delivers taste. Yep, you should. Just go.
