Walk Talk Taste Galway Tour: A Deliciously Honest Review

If you’re thinking of checking out Galway, Ireland and, maybe also really like snacks, the “Walk Talk Taste” tour could be right up your street! Is it worth it? Basically, this gives a deep dive into just what I experienced and helps anyone thinking of giving it a go themselves. I will run through each of the spots we stopped at, sharing just what made them tick and some tips to get the most from your experience.

First Impressions and Meeting the Guide

Guide Leading Food Tour Group

So, when I turned up for the Walk Talk Taste tour, it was, maybe also actually drizzling—welcome to Ireland, right? But that’s completely fine because the gray skies could not take the shine off the colorful buildings of Galway City. I found the meeting point quite easily. Pretty much the guide, who introduced himself, was really personable right from the get-go. Turns out, he clearly loves Galway and all the cool, sometimes also kinda interesting food places it offers. He gave us, just a little, introduction, explaining pretty much how the afternoon would run and basically highlighting his genuine excitement to show us his favorite spots, which definitely lifted the group’s spirits even before we got to the food. It seemed like it might be a good shout, the kind of start anyone would hope for when experiencing a city’s food scene for the first time.

A Chocolate Start at Hazel Mountain Chocolate

Hazel Mountain Chocolate Galway

Our first proper stop? That, in a way, was Hazel Mountain Chocolate, so it’s a chocolate shop which sources beans ethically and actually crafts chocolate on-site. I am someone with, in some respects, an unhealthy relationship to chocolate so you know I was pretty happy! This place seemed very committed to what they do, which I appreciated. The tour guide, to be honest, spoke passionately on their methods and some other background facts. They pretty much offered us samples; obviously you get a good taste of a wide range of flavors, from creamy milk chocolate to intense dark chocolate that really gives your taste buds a zing. I could be talked into becoming a dark chocolate guy now. One of the best parts was, in some respects, finding out just what makes their process special, because it’s not just about making any old chocolate; they are basically thinking about quality and where things are sourced. It’s a really great starting point because it gets everyone excited and makes you, very, ready to see what else Galway has to offer.

Savouring Seafood at Tartare Cafe + Wine Bar

Tartare Cafe Wine Bar Galway

Next, the tour sort of changed direction as we walked towards Tartare Cafe + Wine Bar, a spot just famed for its seafood offerings. Turns out, stepping into this place felt like you were, you know, in the know! The cafe, which apparently places a big importance on, is just the freshest local produce and has almost an atmosphere that’s both casual and classy at the same time. We were presented with, pretty much, a lovely selection of dishes, each showcasing the sea’s bounty. So there was a strong fishy aroma! Every dish seemed prepared with attention to detail, highlighting pure and natural flavors. The guide kinda also gave us information on each dish, walking us through each place it comes from, and then talking about just why they matter to Galway’s food culture. It’s this kind of depth that actually made this tour feel a level above what I expected, giving everyone more than just tastes and flavours but something to think about. You, too, know.

The King’s Head: History with a Pint

The Kings Head Pub Galway

After tasting local chocolate and seafood, the tour also took us to The King’s Head. Basically, this isn’t just any pub; it is actually dripping with history. Turns out the place is in an incredible old building with, like your, stories etched into every corner and beam. It also had a dark and kinda mysterious energy. Apparently, this pub gets its name from the story of how King Charles I had his head chopped off, and well, some say parts of it are built from stones taken from a castle that once belonged to him – a great factoid! I went with an experience, and some other craic too, of course. Sipping some proper, locally brewed pint right there, within those walls, while, like, the guide shared a number of fun historical facts was certainly great. I started to consider it more and more with every slurp! It sort of connected me with the city’s past; very few food tours manage that!

McCambridge’s: An Irish Food Emporium

McCambridge's Galway

The second to last stop, which was another stand out moment on this food tour, came in the form of McCambridge’s. That’s basically an amazing food hall that any foodie would enjoy just wondering around for a solid hour. The aroma as you walk in is so inviting and warm. At every turn, there were selections of local cheeses, and freshly baked breads. You could stare for ages. Oh! Also they give generous tasters too, including a few cheeses and some meats all sourced directly from nearby farms. I got chatting with, just a little, cheese and learned about cheesemaking which gave the snacks more substance than you expect. What really added more layers to the stop was really learning just how McCambridge’s have actually contributed a heap to Irish food culture, over a seriously large number of years. That place felt amazing! I can see myself actually going again. I left with some things I’m not sure I can afford and a bigger love for all of Galway has to offer. I would absolutely rate McCambridge’s as, definitely, the place to go if you want to take stuff back with you after your trip to Galway. 5 stars!

Ending on a Sweet Note at Ginos Homemade Ice Cream

Ginos Homemade Ice Cream Galway

The Walk Talk Taste tour wrapped up at Ginos Homemade Ice Cream, which is, like, where we got to put a proper, final, sweet cap on all those hours spent sampling fine foods. To be completely fair, after all the tastes along the route, having ice cream felt ideal! The variety of flavors was extensive! From classics to more daring choices, it also made sure that there was almost something to suit everybody’s particular tastes. That being said, what was, by the way, great was hearing how the ice cream is crafted, as that is using genuinely traditional methods. They are committed to quality, you see, so it’s a suitable end to the ethos of the whole experience. As, as a matter of fact, the final taste was great, as everyone chilled outside chatting through their highlight moments from their travels that afternoon.
