Triund Hike Review: A Trek to Remember (Alt 2870 Mtr)

So, you’re thinking of hitting the Triund trail, are you? You know, the one that takes you up to 2870 meters? Well, I’m here to tell you, it’s almost an experience. That said, if you’re contemplating whether or not to go, consider this less as a question, but instead think of it more as an open invitation to seriously view nature. Really!

Getting to the Starting Point: Mcleodganj

Mcleodganj

The thing is, this hike basically kicks off from Mcleodganj, more or less a suburb of Dharamshala. Getting here can be quite something! You often have the option to grab a flight to Kangra Airport, then that’s pretty close, like an hour away. Yet, if you’re all for the slightly longer, really budget-friendly adventure, that, in that case, maybe take an overnight bus from Delhi. Anyway, when you get to Mcleodganj, it’s almost like you’ve walked into a different kind of dimension. You’ll find, like, this Tibetan culture blending really nicely with that lovely mountain air.

The very initial thing you’ll have to do is arrive to the center of Mcleodganj. Actually, depending on when you are going there, this area will tend to be packed full with vehicles, travelers, merchants. You have to carefully move from here if your goal is to arrive at the start of the Triund hike trail. And speaking of the trailheads, there is that Tikkling trailhead as well as the Galu Devi Temple one. Either one should serve just fine.

The Ascent: What to Expect on the Trail

Triund Trail

Alright, so that Triund trek. It’s around 9 kilometers, maybe a bit less, give or take, and in some respects, it’s categorized as an easy-to-moderate climb. You know, first half? More or less, it’s that gentle slope, just ideal for, well, warming up those muscles. The thing is, after that, anyway, things get that tiny bit steeper, especially near the end. We should make you fully aware of that right now!

I think I can give some additional information regarding the specific routes: As I mentioned, you’ve got the Tikkling and Galu Devi Temple trailheads. If you are thinking of starting at Tikkling, expect a steady rise from the start, which does provide some intense inclines right off the bat, for sure getting you right into that cardio. Then that Galu Devi Temple approach, in some respects, begins with kind of a gentler gradient. Yet, honestly, it soon catches up, meeting that Tikkling trail after some time.

Most of the route, you see, will be marked clearly. And yet, it’s always pretty helpful to, you know, possibly get a local guide, more or less if you’re hiking by yourself or, you know, if you are there during off-season periods. When I was heading up, I could tell that most of that path had loose rock, so arguably wearing appropriate shoes are going to be your thing for the hike. And the views? Gosh, so you have these like, crazy views of the Kangra Valley. Seriously! In fact, you could actually see the Dhauladhar mountains all around. They’re literally staring right at you!

What to Bring: Gear and Essentials

Hiking Gear

When it comes to getting ready for Triund, honestly, it’s, you know, pretty important to get ready with the right type of equipment. You see, what you’ll need is, for starters, some solid, basically comfortable hiking footwear. So, too, bring that water bottle, just reusable, of course. Also, try packing a few light snacks—like, you know, maybe some energy bars, dried fruits…that sort of stuff.

I think I can help by giving a brief checklist, very essential items that can ensure a smoother and much more fun experience: Always have a first aid kit and I do hope that you will never actually need it. I would try to get one with bandages and antiseptic wipes! You might consider the option to add some sunscreen! Seriously, you can experience sunburn up in high altitudes. Get one which has a seriously high SPF! That trail I took might prove to get rather treacherous especially near cliffside paths; definitely have at least a simple walking stick with you just to test out what’s in front. At the very least, I recommend at least two liters! Try packing the kind that actually insulates!

Just to add to my list, I want to tell you, like, that the weather here shifts real quick. Like, just unbelievably fast! I really recommend packing layers. Definitely take a light jacket, possibly even that waterproof one if, possibly, it appears a bit cloudy. Similarly to what I was recommending earlier, have a power bank fully charged, too! That’s very important to me because it makes me think and feel a lot safer, which is exactly what I recommend for everyone!

At the Top: The Views and the Experience

Triund Summit

Now that, that you’ve gotten to Triund. And yet, well let me tell you, it is absolutely worth all the huffing, as a matter of fact, and the puffing! You literally step onto this grassy knoll, yet, you’re bordered by, I mean, those crazy mountains on one side and that just huge valley spread out beneath. That scene? Kind of priceless.

Up at that summit, you have, perhaps, a few of these simple guesthouses and tents in order to stay overnight, you know, you can find some food, like the basic stuff anyway—maggie noodles, eggs. By the way, it may get really chilly at night, even anyway, during those summer periods, which can prove very surprising. You could spend hours there, really just enjoying the beauty all around you, even if you end up deciding just to day trek, just know it may be worth spending just one extra day, too. Basically!

Tips for a Smooth Hike

Hiking Tips

So, you would want that trek that really runs seamlessly? Seriously!

  • Starting Early: This can arguably aid avoiding that scorching midday sun, also the mass rush.
  • Acclimatization: By the way, if you’re heading up from sea level, you might consider getting used to Mcleodganj just a bit, basically, just before that climb.
  • Respect the Environment: Always dispose of all of the garbage responsibly. Stay onto all of the marked paths, really protect all of that local flora, for example.
  • Stay Hydrated: And, seriously, keep sipping, basically, often!

Anyway, what’s great about going to Triund is not strictly seeing the actual summit views or scenery, you know; that whole entire vibe, it is. If that’s what you really wish to experience. You literally feel so far, seriously cut off from basically everything. You breathe basically the freshest air ever, that could honestly reset any, even someone’s most awful day. Oh gosh, is that hike ever very gorgeous! You’ll agree.
