Well, actually, a 3-day Christmas Eve safari to Tarangire and Serengeti could be just the escape you need! Yet, this review, well, it gets down to the details to help you decide if this type of adventure is for you, to be honest. That said, pack your bags mentally, as we take a look at what you can expect!

The Allure of a Christmas Eve Safari

Safari Allure

So, you know, there’s something almost magical about experiencing wildlife during the holiday season, right? Still, Christmas in Tanzania is something pretty special, very different from the usual winter wonderland scene, naturally. Instead of cozying up by a fireplace, you might be witnessing herds of elephants against the setting sun, you know. Or perhaps watching a cheetah stalking its prey, literally! In some respects, the Tarangire and Serengeti provide this spectacular backdrop to make your Christmas memorable.

But, that 3-day safari? Like your everyday vacation, it is not, alright? The thing is, it requires careful thought in terms of planning, what to pack, and the mindset needed to fully appreciate the wilds, basically. Okay, you have to consider, it’s a bit of a physical commitment because those jeep rides, sometimes they could be a little bumpy. Then you need to pack clothing appropriate for warm days, also slightly cooler evenings, yet. Now, there are also cameras. I mean how can you leave without those photographs?

Tarangire: The Elephant’s Playground

Tarangire Elephants

Alright, Day one often kicks off in Tarangire National Park, yet, that park, well, it is like a haven for elephants. I mean lots and lots of elephants, frankly! Especially during the dry season, the Tarangire River turns into a lifeline, right, attracting so many wild animals that are thirsty and want to cool off. On top of that, seeing herds of elephants gathering here can be, really, an epic view, I mean almost poetic.

And now for the wildlife besides elephants. Because Tarangire does have some interesting ones. Of course, expect to see giraffes, zebras, wildebeests. You should see quite a range of birds too, definitely. The safari guides, of course, well, they tend to know the areas to get that perfect wildlife viewing, so they are super knowledgable, usually, anyway. Also, during game drives, maybe ask about the local flora, more or less, they have some stories too!

Serengeti: The Endless Plains

Serengeti Endless Plains

Alright, Day two and three typically, you know, those are spent in the Serengeti. Very vast, very iconic, the plains spread for miles, in a way, providing nearly unlimited viewing. And the Serengeti at Christmas, in particular? Okay, that has some additional perk due to migration patterns! I mean large herds might well be on the move providing unbelievable opportunities for photography! In some respects the scope of it is what you remember always.

And, by the way, consider maybe that you take a sunrise game drive, right? Maybe that’s to experience the Serengeti, specifically. So, that morning light across the savannah and, of course, waking wildlife all, that really does have some magic! The famous “Big Five”, very popular for photographers who wants those pics. Lion sightings aren’t that unusual if you’re interested.

Christmas Eve in the Wild

Christmas Eve Wilderness

Alright, you might wonder: what does Christmas Eve even feel like when you are out on safari? Maybe it sounds really weird, yeah? Okay, a few tour operators, honestly, they often arrange dinners in the bush, slightly under the stars, basically. A little campfire, right, swapping stories, while enjoying a barbeque. The Christmas version could be, very simple, very intimate and, to be honest, rather memorable compared to regular conventional celebrations.

Plus, okay, don’t forget to check, maybe to bring, well, a little something from home, like your little Santa hat or ornament? That would inject your festive atmosphere, to be honest. Think of carols round the campfire too! Very, very unexpected and incredibly unique, I think.

Things to know and What to Expect

Planning Safari

So, some expectations to keep in mind as you get closer to go? The truth is that Christmas is kinda peak season. As a matter of fact, the weather’s amazing for animal spotting and it’s just before all that rain that is to come, yet! Of course, that all affects price points.

But if you did a small tour group instead? And you found accommodation at the less luxurious lodges outside of the parks. You could make this safari slightly easier on your bank balance, in other words. Look into making bookings ahead because I want to remind you how much you’ll love it.

Also, okay, bring your camera! Think high zoom. These 3-day safaris sometimes give such quick shots so don’t expect to capture close-ups all the time. Make sure everything has plenty of battery and maybe keep it near you so it isn’t left behind!

Overall Recommendation: Is This Safari For You?

Safari Review

Anyway, is the 3-day Christmas Eve safari to Serengeti, Tarangire is alright for you? Well that really, seriously does boil down to just what you are hoping to gain, in a way. If, actually, your spirit says, ‘I want to spend Christmas different” And, if wildlife encounters does fill you with adrenaline so yes!

But, think about your personal comfort threshold too, obviously. 3 days gives you quite a lot packed in. Early wake-up, slightly bumpy drives! Still, to immerse yourself like that is pretty magnificent and I really can’t rate the 3 days safari enough. Make sure there is lots of laughter!

But overall it does sounds perfect, right? Remember memories made like these will have you sitting at the fireplace swapping stories of your adventure in years to come!
