Malta, that tiny island nation practically smack dab in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, is brimming with far more than just nice weather; it has a crazy amount of stuff to experience. So, too, it’s crammed with history, some pretty amazing culture, and scenery that looks almost unreal. This review, it is hoped, gives you the lowdown on visiting the towns, checking out those bazaars, taking in the long story of Malta, enjoying the culture, getting amongst nature, and appreciating the crystal-clear sea. That is something to look at!

Exploring Malta’s Charming Towns

Valletta, that capital city, it is thought, is pretty hard to miss. Seriously, that whole place is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Just imagine cobblestone streets, grand palaces, and those super awesome views from the Upper Barrakka Gardens, so it is, a place you really could hang out at for hours. That, as a matter of fact, would make your day! Don’t pass on St. John’s Co-Cathedral either; the inside is totally decked out with some rather amazing Baroque art. Then there’s Mdina, or the “Silent City,” it’s just kind of hanging out on a hill. Think thin, twisty streets, buildings that have been around for a crazy long time, and just an atmosphere that is actually quite peaceful, or something like that. It just is. If you feel like actually getting lost in some authentic Maltese life, check out places just a little way away, almost not, such as Marsaxlokk, that’s got, like, a harbor packed with super colorful fishing boats. Or maybe get down to Sliema for all your shopping desires. It has all the new stores you could really care about. Either place has so much to give you a different flavor of Malta.

The Alluring Bazaars and Markets

To soak up the local flavor, so too it’s important that you definitely need to spend some real time hanging out at Malta’s markets. Marsaxlokk Sunday Market? Seriously, a must. That is, a chance for you to see, smell, and sample all kinds of local stuff, seemingly, things that you would love. Think fresh seafood that came right out of the water, homemade goodies, and heaps of souvenirs. Bargaining? Totally the game here, just get stuck in! Valletta Food Market is this kind of old building that’s, well, totally changed into an area with heaps of different food stalls. You have almost every kind of food choice imaginable right there in the building. It is quite something to see! Great spot, like, if everyone wants something just a bit different for lunch or dinner, right?

A Walk Through Malta’s History

Malta, actually, it has had all kinds of characters traipsing all over it, like your Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Knights of St. John, and the British. Every bunch of them has just sort of left its mark. Hagar Qim and Mnajdra, nearly prehistoric temple spots, tend to blow your mind. To consider they were put together a crazy long time ago is a big deal, and you’ll agree too it’s an incredible display of the kind of things ancient people could put together. Getting down into the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum, so it goes, is sort of like, well, visiting an underground graveyard from a super long time ago. Book your trip, too it’s apparently a place people still talk about today, because places are very much restricted and just some people may get in to protect these places for so long into the future. Take a wander through Fort Rinella and get almost like, literally eye-to-eye, or something like that, with a huge Victorian-era gun. Pretty darned interesting if you tend to like military gizmos. The Lascaris War Rooms, seriously down underneath Valletta, gave me the chance, maybe, to see exactly where they were strategizing all the Allied shenanigans for, say, the Second World War. That is seriously awesome.

Experiencing Maltese Culture

Maltese culture is really some kind of wild combination of so many different influences. If you fancy grabbing some super local grub, give stuff like rabbit stew (stuffat tal-fenek) a go. It may just knock you off your feet with that taste! Pastizzi, these kinda flaky pastries full to the brim with ricotta or mushy peas, these are super common snacks to grab. They totally, almost, can get your taste buds in action. Seeing how local lace and glass is totally created? Yeah, that’s worth doing. Get yourself stuck into one of those village feasts (festas) if there’s one kicking off. Each village basically honors some religious character with fireworks, music, and eats and treats galore. So, too, that could be quite awesome, actually. It gives one a chance to seriously get in among some pretty old Maltese customs.

Getting Back to Nature

So Malta isn’t necessarily thought of as the land of green parks. Yet, it is understood there’s loads to check out when it really comes to Mother Nature. Check out the Dingli Cliffs if you’d rather, just, stare off over a whole heap of, almost unreal coastal scenery. Then try taking in Buskett Gardens. Seems like the greenest spot on the whole island, seriously really chill, where the Knights used to go shooting, too it’s fair to say. Jump onto Gozo to seriously just soak up some total peaceful vibes. Hop around Ramla Bay, well that’s practically the ideal sandy bay. Seemingly also visit the Azure Window spot, that is still awesome, nearly, even without that famed arch they had, which has now since caved in! Hike your own personal Comino trails to go off somewhere where not so many tourists will bother. In some respects that’s quite interesting and worthwhile.

Enjoying the Maltese Sea

Seriously, you, too, can’t go to Malta without jumping into the clear blue waters that encompass this land. Go over to the Blue Lagoon on Comino because it literally, you know, resembles something totally photoshopped; that crystal clear water really is mind blowing. Getting stuck in with snorkeling or scuba is a must because seriously it looks almost quite unbelievable what’s just lying beneath. Then, so you know, stuff happens! See all sorts of old sunken ships and marine life as well! The coast there has spots of red that will stay with you long after the end of any diving or snorkelling you get yourself caught up with. See Popeye Village and take a tour too it seems almost not real and from something straight out of the original movie.
