The Official Emily in Paris Tour: A Candid Review
If you’re anything like me, you got completely swept away by the bright, candy-colored charisma that is ‘Emily in Paris’. The outfits, the romance, but also those picture-postcard spots. So, it’s almost no surprise that when I found out about ‘The Official Emily in Paris Locations Walking Tour’, I knew I had to give it a try. Now, after experiencing the actual walk, I’m here to give you the full, unvarnished lowdown – the good, the charming, and whether or not it’s actually worth your hard-earned euros.
First Impressions: Setting the Scene
The meeting spot was pretty convenient, not too far from the Louvre, which made it a simple find. That said, getting there a tad early is advisable, as that area can sometimes get really, really crowded with people. When our guide finally showed up, that’s when things got moving. Ours, she really did have the whole ‘enthusiastic tour guide’ thing going on, but very quickly she admitted the one thing everyone always feels. You kind of want to find out just what to expect on this jaunt through the heart of the series.
Iconic Locations: Stepping onto the Set
Right away, we went to quite a few key locations. Like, very literally walking past Emily’s apartment in Place de l’Estrapade felt neat, even magical almost. You know, just seeing that quaint little square where so many iconic moments occurred really made the show pop out, in a way. The tour makes a point of hitting the Gabriel’s restaurant (Terra Nera in reality), where that tension always hung in the air between Emily, Gabriel and Camille. Then, it’s over to some additional spots. It was quite neat seeing the actual locations. But it seemed we didn’t actually go inside these, which can be a slight bummer for some, potentially.
That, is something very particular, and very charming in person. It’s just quite a thing. Plus, you may or may not get amazing photos, especially in spots that got packed quite quickly. The guide, too, had a book with photographs from the show which she very quickly showed us at each stop, so you have a basis for comparing the onscreen versus reality. This really helped to recreate scenes from the series in my mind, basically.
Beyond the Show: Parisian Charm
What took me a bit by surprise was the extra touch of seeing Paris that this tour ended up providing. As I went to places made popular from the show, you almost certainly also saw cool, small boutiques and very beautiful architectural styles you probably won’t see on other, typical tours of Paris. So, in that respect it makes it worth it. Like, some little side streets that just oozed character, very delicious-looking pastry shops, and some historical monuments all kind of sneaked into the narrative, sort of. That made the experience more than something only based on the show.
You know, getting those insights meant learning a bit about what neighborhood life is like for everyday Parisians. We got treated to a few random historic bits and some local anecdotes that helped enrich the whole thing. You are almost discovering both ‘Emily in Paris’ and regular, daily Paris together, and both got added value. You probably learn details you’d skip by if alone. Plus, our guide knew some spots with very superb views where one can snap Instagram-worthy pics.
The Guide: A Key Ingredient
You almost certainly need a stellar guide for a tour to work well, and that held so true here. Our guide clearly knew the series backwards and forwards. But more than that, you just can tell she loved Paris a bunch and knew its stories. I remember feeling that she really balanced that stuff wonderfully. I found this enthusiasm quite catching. That sort of just raised my interest by several degrees.
She always pointed out tiny details that gave a glimpse into why producers picked those spots, maybe even what challenges showed up filming out on location. So, you understand everything, you are almost watching her watch Emily, and so she gave this level of detail. What this amounts to is giving you that deeper kind of perspective and respect for work that went in to the show, so that adds depth to it.
Pace and Comfort: Something to Consider
The tour took around two to three hours, at a very reasonable stroll. Still, walking, mainly with cobblestones under your feet, means putting on very sturdy and comfy shoes. That you may want to do is kind of an understatement! There might be brief times where you have the choice to sit, very briefly. So keep it in mind that one’s ability to hang steady would depend. The weather, obviously, you cannot change so be equipped for sun or possibly rain, according to forecasts.
Value for Money: Is It Worth It?
For fans, this almost certainly will rate highly. You are literally in locations you saw on TV, plus that added backdrop of hearing how it happened with those spots. But just purely as only seeing Parisian culture you might not want that, I should be so frank. Tickets tend to be on a less affordable range and, obviously, doing similar strolls by oneself could save cash. Yet, the historical anecdotes as told by a native plus details in shooting locations does enhance it, really.
So it will come down to asking what means the most, basically. People who like having insight with insider angles while being taken literally to Emily’s Paris, I think they find the expense a worthy tradeoff. But folks who place cost first may rather investigate locations all on their own.
- Pros: It literally hits recognizable locations from the show, very fun trivia and details. Guides know Paris a great deal, providing that dual viewpoint.
- Cons: Many popular spots mean crowded pictures sometimes. You get better cost by making an individual stroll by yourself perhaps, potentially.
For the huge fan? This would prove awesome. Casual TV viewer who’s seeking deep cultural appreciation beyond a show? Another option could provide greater impact, or could add an extra layer of value here.
Overall, it all hinges upon expectations while taking into consideration desires so as to make one happy decision. This provides the context for figuring this bit of tourist thing out!
