Tashkent, Khujand & Fergana Valley Tour: My Review

Looking at a quick trip that gets you out of Tashkent and into the Fergana Valley, with a peek into Tajikistan? I figured that the “Tashkent-Khujand-Fergana Valley-Tashkent 2 Days 1 Night Tour” might just be the ticket. So, let’s get into the highlights – and a few things that you might want to think about ahead of booking.

What’s Included in this Whirlwind Tour, Basically?

What's Included in the Whirlwind Tour

Alright, so the basic tour is going to cover a good chunk of ground. You’re looking at transport, and I mean from Tashkent up and over into Tajikistan (that’s Khujand), then through the Fergana Valley and heading back again. Hotels get sorted, too, and, yeah, some meals come with the deal. Guides, that is local people who know their stuff, those guides will walk with you in each city. Is that useful? Quite possibly.

Speaking of highlights, I did love that the whole crossing of a border wasn’t a problem for me. Having all the transportation pieces arranged, and that paperwork sorted made this easy. Getting to see bits of two countries when you are so pressed on time is pretty unique. At the same time, I had to wonder if everything felt a bit too planned? Keep reading!

A Closer Look at the Itinerary Itself

Day one starts off early from Tashkent. And, in a way, you’re headed towards Khujand, Tajikistan. Getting through the border, which could be something that takes all day otherwise, so is a bit quicker thanks to the guides and planning. Once there, expect the typical sort of quick city sightseeing, so a local bazaar and maybe a historic site. By evening, you’ll be in the Fergana Valley. And you’ll spend the night, probably tired.

Day two? You’ll see a bit of the Fergana Valley itself. Places like Fergana city or maybe a local craft workshop might be on your list. Also, I’m sure that you would like to get photos of that landscape. In the late afternoon, so, it is back to Tashkent. The schedule can feel rather packed. You can get photos, so it isn’t all bad.

My Top Highlights From the Trip

Being honest, getting out of Tashkent was a highlight for me. I’m glad that I had an organized ride to do that. It really feels good, getting the culture from another place that quickly.

Khujand was alright. In a way, the ancient fortress and the Panjshanbe Bazaar gave some insights into Tajik life. So, too, you’ll be able to haggle for dried fruit!

Also, getting that whole Silk Road history lesson through Fergana was cool. Visiting the traditional workshops, is that cool or what? This visit offered a great look at that local craftsmanship.

Where the Tour Could Do Even Better

Where the Tour Could Do Even Better

Honestly, I would have loved just a little more “me” time. The schedule gets so cramped, as a matter of fact, that you could barely sit to actually take everything in. Getting to stop at random tea houses along the way or just stroll about at a market, well, I mean, that would make this really different.

Food on the tour, well, it’s food. I guess that you are not going hungry, alright? Getting to experience that local cuisine more fully, with the kinds of food that families really do eat—it sounds good to me! Taking a tour just to try some awesome plov variation would have been perfect, too.

Getting around? Comfortable enough, maybe. At the same time, some of the roads? Bumpy! Spending some funds to find more cozy transport seems useful.

Things I Wish I’d Known Beforehand

Things I Wish I'd Known Beforehand

Okay, here are a few tips, because I like you!

  • Border crossings might just take time: Even though things are smoothed over, expect delays anyway. Bring entertainment, something to read, that is.
  • Pack smartly for two climates: Tashkent gets hot. So too do parts of Fergana. The mountains, so, they might be colder. Packing layers can help a bit.
  • Small gifts work well: Bringing little things for craftspeople, especially in more rural parts of Fergana, just works wonders.
  • Know your currencies: You will likely need Uzbek Sum and Tajik Somoni. Check ahead.

Okay, so who does this tour actually suit? Should be perfect for: those on short time frames, that’s for sure. You get to tick off a few countries and experience things without lots of individual planning. Getting out there quickly is part of it all, really.

However? If you prefer something a bit slow paced, is that a thing for you? Also, a desire to go way off the path is there? Well, you should know that this kind of fast paced trip is not it. That is real. I believe you can have awesome personal experience.

Final Thoughts: The Tashkent-Khujand-Fergana Valley 2-Day Tour

The “Tashkent-Khujand-Fergana Valley-Tashkent 2 Days 1 Night Tour” has some positives: crossing borders isn’t so hard, and, also, you see some varied things in a short time frame. On the other hand, you do not want a super scheduled experience, so you won’t be loving it.
