Tamborine Mountain Distillery Cocktail Masterclass: An Honest Review

Thinking of trying a fun cocktail-making class at Tamborine Mountain Distillery? So you’re thinking if it is a good time, that’s what you want to know, and if it is worth the price. Let’s take a closer look, and I will go over my experience so you can see if this experience suits what you are looking for. It’s located near Brisbane, Australia.

Booking and Initial Impressions

Cocktail Masterclass Booking

Making the booking was easy; that’s always a plus. You can reserve your spot online in no time. Right off the bat, communication was good. That is, you get all the confirmations and reminders you need, too it’s a good start. Pulling up to the distillery, that’s what I think. It looked pretty quaint. You get that charming, old-world vibe the moment you see it. So it feels special, rather than just walking into any other distillery. This isn’t just a place; it looks like you are there for something really interesting. You park and you see it is sitting on top of Tamborine Mountain. It’s almost like a cottage.

The Masterclass Experience

Cocktail Masterclass Experience

The masterclass lasts about two hours, which feels just right, really. The instructor starts with a bit about the distillery’s story. You learn how it all began, and about their methods. Which makes you feel like you are getting a little peek into their traditions, or something. That is, rather than just going through the motions of making drinks. You usually get to make about three cocktails yourself, guided step-by-step. Everything’s set out for you, like all the tools and ingredients. So you do not fumble around trying to find things, that part’s organized. It’s actually quite hands-on. So you are not just watching someone else do everything.

There are a few of things that you should know, such as: you get a choice of three classes. So too, depending on which class you are taking will depend on the prices.

They are:

  • Cocktail Masterclass. Lasting for 2 hours with 3 cocktails. Cost $99 AUD
  • Liqueur Masterclass. Lasting for 1.5 hours with up to 10 liqueurs to try. Cost $79 AUD.
  • Gin Blending Class. Lasting for 2.5 hours which is run by their master distiller. Cost $195 AUD.

Drinks that I was able to concoct are:

  • Espresso Martini: A great coffee infused drink that will pick you up anytime!
  • Lychee Martini: For those with a sweeter palette, lychee flavour will be the ultimate treat for you!
  • Aviation: One of the oldest cocktails which is floral and absolutely yummy!

Be prepared to enjoy it yourself after, or with some friends and family who tagged along.

Quality of Ingredients and Equipment

Cocktail Ingredients

The quality of the ingredients is quite important. It’s clear they don’t skimp on this, really. You will get to use real fruit juices. As well as the distillery’s own spirits. You might taste the difference it makes to have proper spirits in a cocktail. The equipment’s pretty standard, all the basic bar tools are there. Nothing super fancy, yet clean and in decent shape.

Value for Money

Value For Money

The masterclass isn’t the cheapest way to spend an afternoon, clearly. If you break it down. You’re paying for the experience. But it’s rather informative, enjoyable, plus you get to drink what you make. It’s maybe a reasonable indulgence if you want a different kind of activity. That is for a special occasion. Then the price feels right. The gin blending class is more expensive. So, if you are interested, that might be a better choice to create more of a personal blend.

The Distillery Grounds and Atmosphere

Distillery Grounds

Spending some extra time to wander the grounds after the class is recommended. So you will get the full experience. They have gardens to walk through and gift shop to pick up something. Or just relax and enjoy the atmosphere, that’s what I feel you would get. This spot can be a busy tourist location, and even in the class. There will be a lot of people surrounding the grounds checking the shop, having lunch, and even going through tours. As a tourist destination, too that’s a perfect activity.

Overall Recommendation

Recommendation

The Tamborine Mountain Distillery Cocktail Masterclass is one thing that I think is cool. As something fun and educational, anyway. It is very hands-on, the spirits tasted nice, the staff seemed pretty awesome. If you are visiting Mount Tamborine, that’s an attraction to check out. Although the masterclass costs you something. It offers pretty good value for someone wanting an experience to remember.

So a few considerations you can take away are:

  • Interactive and enjoyable experience for cocktail enthusiasts.
  • Quality ingredients enhance the cocktails that taste great.
  • Educational with distillery background and expert instruction.
  • Pricing, which is maybe worthwhile for a special occasion.
  • Picturesque grounds to make your visit more of a perfect day.

Would you try the cocktail masterclass, if you visit Tamborine Mountain?

So, until then, I hope you liked what you read!
