Sunset Boat Tour Review: Kotor to Lady of the Rocks & Perast
So, you know, planning a trip can be kind of tricky, and choosing the right tours is almost always super important. That’s why I felt that, you know, sharing my thoughts on the ‘From Kotor Sunset Boat Tour to Perast Lady of the Rocks’ would be really useful. It’s a seriously sought-after excursion, that it is. Getting a good idea of what to expect is just vital before you go ahead and book anything. I hope my stories give you a bit of an idea whether this trip is really for you or not, because your vacation time is important, after all.
Booking and Getting Ready for the Tour
First things first, like, getting this tour all booked. There are so many companies selling this exact experience, almost, so reading reviews is rather crucial. I ended up booking through a local agency that seemed to have really good write-ups and offered a fair enough price, is that not always the best thing? The meeting point was actually super easy to find, right near the Kotor sea gate, it really was. I got there a little early, too, it’s just always safer, in my opinion, very.
The boat, that I saw, was really clean and seemed well-maintained. We’re talking, that, like, it had a sun deck for catching rays and also a shaded area, almost, which was greatly appreciated as it tends to be a bit too much sun sometimes. The staff were truly friendly and made sure everybody felt comfortable and they even offered drinks and snacks for sale, it’s almost as if they knew I’d want one later, yet.
Setting Sail: Kotor Bay’s Beauty
As soon as we left the harbor, wow, that Kotor Bay really did unfold its magic. Surrounded by these imposing mountains that you’re gonna find here, and with, like, the sun beginning its descent, it certainly created a breathtaking setting. The water, which can only be described as super still, mirrored the sky beautifully, more or less, creating these stunning photo opportunities everywhere I looked.
The guide, very, started to tell us a bit about the history of Kotor and also about the surrounding areas, that. That history alone is genuinely rich, full of stories about sailors, conquests, and also hidden legends. Listening to them certainly made the views even more significant, actually, because that information connected the scenery to centuries past. I always enjoy history that connects to a place, which this certainly had, yet.
Lady of the Rocks: A Special Place
Next up was this famous stop at Our Lady of the Rocks, or, you know, the “Gospa od Škrpjela” in local speak, very. This man-made island has a church with a pretty fascinating story behind it, seemingly, you know, local sailors, they kept this ancient vow to throw rocks into the sea after finding an image of the Virgin Mary on a reef. Over centuries, that tradition made this island what it is now, pretty fascinating, really.
You have, more or less, around twenty minutes to look at the church. Though it isn’t always loads of time, so it’s a bit of a squeeze, frankly. The church is beautifully decorated inside, or so it appeared to me. What you find are walls filled with these baroque paintings, is that awesome? It’s certainly worth having a quick peek to learn a bit about the history of this tiny, human-made island.
Perast: A Town Frozen in Time
After that tiny island, the boat goes, you know, over to Perast. It’s like this quaint little town which feels a world away from the busier Kotor, really. Perast, that’s got this history filled with sailors and seafarers, too. A lot of it has beautiful architecture that remains surprisingly untouched, a little like stepping back into the past.
You get slightly under an hour to wander here, might be. It really is lovely just ambling along the waterfront, or, you know, peeking into small cafes, so very Montenegrin, isn’t it? If you want something with an incredible view, definitely stop for gelato. So, it makes a great picture looking out onto the bay too, doesn’t it?
Sunset on Kotor Bay
Now, the best bit: cruising back as the sun dips below the horizon, almost. You’re just treated, that is, to a real spectacle of colors over the bay, is it breathtaking? Everything’s bathed, pretty much, in orange and pink light, very relaxing. It’s so stunning, and a calming experience.
It truly does, very, feel magical as the boat makes its way back, could be. With, like, the Old Town of Kotor lit up in the background, which creates this memorable view, could be. It gives you, arguably, a moment to just sit back and think about the beauty of that Montenegrin coast, actually.
Good Things About The Trip
Okay, let’s touch on the pros. The views, or the sights, are genuinely incredible, I will say that, for instance. Our Lady of the Rocks and Perast, which provide very great insights into the cultural side of things. And cruising at sunset, like, just takes the trip to another level, anyway.
That said, some parts might have some small niggles. Twenty minutes really isn’t that long at Our Lady of the Rocks, so very quickly I was on the boat again, basically. The boat, you, know, could also get a tiny bit crowded depending on when you take the trip. Also, you’ve got to pay extra for any drinks or nibbles. However, those issues, by the way, didn’t spoil the trip too much. I, more or less, was ready for them.
Is it Worth It? My Final Thoughts
So, would I say it’s worth the money? Absolutely, it’s hard not to like, if you are, you know, all about soaking up some incredible scenery, like, and finding out more about local history, right. If the sun is beating down make sure you pack lots of water too, at the end of the day. Plus you get a memory card for the camera so you can show everyone back home the gorgeous sights, that you can!
