St. Maarten Sky Explorer Ride: Is it the Best View? (Review)
St. Maarten, that tiny island split between the Dutch and French, it’s a popular Caribbean spot, it is, and there’s good reason. Known for its beaches, shopping, and culture, one way that stands out to really soak it all in is the Sky Explorer. So, what is it exactly, and should you make it a part of your travel plans? Read on, and I’ll give you the inside scoop!
What is the St. Maarten Sky Explorer?
Located at Rainforest Adventures Rockland Estate, the Sky Explorer, that is, it’s basically a chairlift, too it’s not just any old ski lift though. So, this lift takes you up Sentry Hill, one of the highest points on the island. That’s right, it’s more than just a scenic ride; it’s a launchpad for a bunch of different activities. It is the central attraction in Rockland Estate.
That ride itself, though, that’s really quite something. As you slowly go upward, that is, you get amazing views of the island. Like, you can see everything! From the turquoise waters and beaches below to the lush green hills. Plus, depending on when you visit, too it’s possible you might get some neat historical insights along the way because Rockland Estate also has some colonial-era ruins. It offers a little slice of St. Maarten’s past. By the way, keep in mind, I visited during the shoulder season so it wasn’t too busy. Maybe plan for something like that yourself? Just thinking!
The Thrill Factor: Ziplining and More!
Now, for people that just need that shot of adrenaline, the Sky Explorer, basically, it’s not just about taking in views; it’s about a few exhilarating activities! I decided to add the zipline and it really added to the total experience.
Once at the top, very, very, like, you can choose to zipline down. That’s right, the zipline courses give you some awesome thrills! As you zip through the rainforest canopy. Very cool, actually. So, there are multiple lines. You’ll get a slightly different perspective from each one. I would argue that it gives you this almost unique mix of adrenaline and pretty views. Pretty neat, if you think about it.
Plus, besides the ziplining, they sometimes offer a “Schmooz Kruize”, or perhaps you can go on “The Flying Dutchman”. That coaster is really very special. Because they attach you to a chair, before sending you down the mountain. Seemingly with some views to soak in too.
Who is the Sky Explorer good for?
I would suggest, seemingly, that one of the nice things about the Sky Explorer, it is, it’s versatile, so it’s great for families, folks, and couples.
Families: Is that you? The Sky Explorer, really, it offers something for all ages. Young kids usually love the chairlift ride and seeing the sights. So, that makes this adventure perfect for a family looking for a day out.
Thrill Seekers: Now, if you want something like real action, I’d suggest you go to the ziplines or “The Flying Dutchman”. They give a good adrenaline boost. In some respects, I would suggest that these activities are great for adventure buffs.
Sightseers: Very much into great views? Like your photographer? Anyway, as I was saying, the Sky Explorer on its own will still give you all of this great scenery. It really offers beautiful views, seemingly without you needing too much exertion. Because it’s basically a great option for those who like taking it easy and seeing the island’s beauty.
What to Consider Before Going
Before you run to Rockland Estate, now, here are some things to consider, which might be important to you.
Timing: Anyway, that you take your time, very, very like, I would argue that this can really affect your experience. So, try going early in the morning or later in the afternoon. Basically, to avoid crowds. That, or the heat in the middle of the day. That being said, a slight breeze at the top did offer respite to many!
What to wear: Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. By the way, if you want to do any of the active stuff like ziplining, you definitely will want closed-toe shoes. Like your sneakers or something!
What to bring: Like your sunblock, a camera, and maybe some water. Seemingly to help yourself while enjoying your day out.
Overall: Worth it or not?
Is it a good addition to your St. Maarten itinerary? In my opinion, seemingly, that is a solid yes!
Why Go: So, this attraction has those amazing views. Then, a few unique activities! The location gives some cultural background of the island, which can also be really neat, too. That gives you a richer travel experience. A slight drawback, I would argue, is the overall cost when adding lots of activities, yet, is it any worse that most day tourism excursions?!
For visitors who want that lasting impression of St. Maarten, as a matter of fact, I think it can certainly deliver that! By the way, I hope this information has helped you choose your travel activities for St. Maarten!
