Salerno Amalfi Coast Boat Tour: My Personal Review

The Amalfi Coast, with its super dramatic cliffs and pretty villages, is almost a postcard image that comes to life. You, very probably, have seen the photos, and I’m here to tell you taking a boat tour from Salerno could be your ticket to experiencing its magic, pretty up close. So, anyway, I thought I’d share my adventure – the good stuff, the views that are killer, and, of course, a couple things to maybe keep in mind. Was the trip the stuff of legends? You know, like something straight out of a movie? Well, kinda! Get ready for the complete lowdown on this Amalfi Coast adventure, done Salerno-style.

Why Salerno? My Launchpad for the Amalfi Coast

Salerno Italy Coastline

Everyone tends to flock to Naples, Positano or maybe even Amalfi when thinking of seeing the Amalfi Coast. It’s almost as if Salerno gets missed out on! That’s very understandable, since it isn’t featured as heavily in the media. So, really, Salerno made a good base because it’s far more affordable. Its also got a kinda laid-back vibe, a bit different from the buzz in places like Positano. That’s actually important. Very. It gave me a slice of local Italian life. Pretty good, really. Besides, I discovered getting to the Amalfi Coast by boat from Salerno is just super easy! It’s also very pleasing.

Booking the Tour: A Piece of Cake, Actually

Amalfi Coast Boat Tour Booking

Booking online was quite the breeze. It seems almost every tour you’d like is listed on major travel sites, but a handful of the smaller, local companies could only be found by searching directly. Anyhow, it turned out pretty smooth. Very smooth. After going through some options – shared boat, small-group, the swankiest private yacht option and that – I actually decided to go with a medium-sized group trip. This felt like the Goldilocks option, you know? Some camaraderie, yet lots of space to stretch out and actually take photos. Oh, too, it came with swimming stops, limoncello tasting (big win!), and the important promise of incredible views. Keep your peepers open too!

Setting Sail: Salerno’s Morning Glow

Salerno Morning Harbour

The marina was buzzing with activity. That’s how it starts. So, our boat waited in the slips, sparkling in that sunshine. We had the safety brief, and off we went! Straight away you feel different slipping away from the dock. Salerno looks even more attractive from the water, all the houses tumbling down the hills. Anyway, the sea breeze, the anticipation of what lay ahead? It all blended. Sort of makes you tingle!

Cruising the Coast: Scenery That Steals the Show

Amalfi Coast Cliffs and Boat

Right, let me get to the important bit! It almost doesn’t matter how many pictures you’ve peeked at; nothing gets you prepared for experiencing the Amalfi Coast by boat. Those famed cliffs shoot straight out of the sea. They’re all layered up with these pastel-colored homes. The water’s very sparkly! Plus, you catch glimpses of swanky villas tucked away in the coves. The whole scene is breathtaking. Truly. So, our captain usually knew all the stories about each place, so that was informative, too. Oh, he knew where to get those award-winning shots, he did.

Amalfi & Positano: A Quick Dip Into Glamour

Positano Italy View From Boat

While the tour didn’t stop for long in either Amalfi or Positano, we cruised slowly. Slowly enough so everyone got these ridiculously good photos. In a way it works better. The advantage being you get that postcard view that is utterly incredible. But really, seeing the towns from the boat shows how the homes cling to the slopes and makes you wonder how they’re even built! Sure, I maybe wish there had been a bit of time to step foot, wander, sip some coffee, or grab some gifts. As I say, a glance might do. At least, it certainly gave me a flavor!

Swimming in the Sea: So Refreshing, Literally

Amalfi Coast Boat Swim

This part was genuinely incredible. Absolutely! It turns out swimming right off the boat, with cliffs towering up high is just so great! The water’s that clear, salty, turquoise that kinda begs you to come in. You also see little fishes darting about beneath you. The swimming bit definitely amped the entire day way up. Also, after a good swim, the included limoncello went down incredibly smooth. Don’t miss out.

Limoncello and Chat: The Perfect Boat Trip Blend

Limoncello Amalfi Coast

That is that Italy staple! I like chatting and limoncello drinking in equal measure. Also, sharing this tangy treat, while looking out at the shore created these moments I would say were precious. Everybody kicked back, chattered, and shared travel tales. Also, getting insights from the skipper? Hearing his coastline stories? Just brilliant, too. Good times, indeed. Almost heavenly.

Who Should Absolutely Do This Tour, Really?

Anyway, a boat gives the space and perspective you never get stuck on a bus or train! Photo fanatics? The vistas from a boat, I want to tell you, will fill your cameras in an instant. Finally, for the casual traveller who is after a smooth, spectacular sample of the Amalfi Coast? This tour nails that.

Tips for Your Tour: Learn from Me, I Mean It

Travel Tips Salerno Amalfi

  • Book that tour ahead of time. Honestly, especially in high season. The boat may fill quicker than you imagine.
  • Sunblock is a must. Absolutely. Out there, all day. And also a hat!
  • Think about bringing a light jacket or maybe a shawl. I got somewhat chilly out on the sea as the day advanced.
  • Definitely grab your camera/phone! Charged, clearly.
  • Try some Italian phrases. It makes connections and you feel involved. I guess you do not need to know much, a handful will do.
  • Consider local gifts, like hand-made soaps or maybe ceramics. Not for me though.
