Review: Wildlife Wonders – 2-Day Jim Corbett Safari Trip From Delhi

Right, if you’re anything like me, you’re often looking for a quick escape from the city, so a two-day trip to Jim Corbett National Park sounded just perfect. I wanted to share my personal take on the “Wildlife Wonders” package from Delhi, covering everything you might, like your comfort, what you could see, and whether it is actually a worthwhile trip. So, pack your bags – virtually, at least – and come with me!

Setting Off From Delhi and Reaching Corbett

Delhi to Jim Corbett road trip

That bit from Delhi is perhaps the least exciting part of the whole deal, yet it’s important to go over it, is that right? The drive, it tends to be somewhere around six to seven hours, give or take, mostly depending on traffic leaving Delhi. The roads, so they’re generally okay, with a few bumpy sections that can test your back a bit, right? It’s often best, so I feel, to leave very early in the morning, so too you miss a chunk of the city traffic and perhaps even arrive in time for lunch near Corbett. Now, most packages include transportation, typically in an air-conditioned vehicle which is definitely useful, really very useful for those hot Indian days, as a matter of fact. But the truth is, that part isn’t much more than just a drive, but hey, hang in there, alright?

Accommodation: Home for a Night

Where you stay can actually have a huge impact on your safari experience, or what, really? My package came with a stay at a resort near the park. The room was, more or less, clean and had the basics, yet don’t imagine extreme comfort or facilities here, you know? So, expect something acceptable without being extravagant, that makes sense, right? That the food at the resort was reasonably tasty. They usually offer a buffet with various Indian dishes, mostly customized to tourists’ tastes, but edible alright? Wi-Fi can be spotty, so perhaps disconnect and get set for the wildlife!

The Heart of the Trip: The Safari Itself

Okay, let’s talk about why you’re going to Corbett in the first place: the safari, now. Safaris happen, well, two times a day – one in the morning and another in the afternoon. They normally last around three to four hours each, arguably. So, you’ll pile into an open jeep with a driver and a guide. That the guide, at least, should be proficient at spotting animals and knowing all about the forest, naturally. Very important, very important: The chances of seeing a tiger? It’s difficult, very difficult. Corbett has tigers, clearly, but they’re experts at not being seen, after all, and stuff. Very likely you will spot deer (spotted, sambar), elephants, various kinds of birds, monkeys, and perhaps even a sloth bear, maybe. The landscape itself, in a way, is gorgeous and worth the visit even if the tiger stays shy alright?

Zones of Jim Corbett: Which One is Right?

Now, Corbett is divided into various zones, each with its own special charm and level of popularity. That the most well-known ones tend to be Dhikala, Bijrani, and Jhirna, you know? Dhikala needs an advance booking, naturally, and it’s actually famous for its grasslands and good chance of seeing wildlife, you know? Bijrani, often, is also very popular and recognized for the beauty of its landscapes and possible tiger sightings. Jhirna tends to be open year-round and that it’s well-known for its bear population. Right, in my case, I was in the Bijrani zone, and while I didn’t get to see a tiger (sad face!), so too I saw herds of deer, elephants playing near a waterhole, and countless birds that is actually cool. Very, very important is booking your safari zone in advance, you know? This is extremely useful as permits sell out very, very fast alright?

Things to Keep in Mind Before You Go

Very cool, a handful of very useful things can really enrich your experience that’s really important to keep in the back of your mind as you are reading about going to Jim Corbett alright? First? Take clothing, more or less, in muted colors that helps you mix with the atmosphere and not alarm the wildlife. So, you need to take layers since mornings could actually be cool, while afternoons become hot as heck alright? Important! Insect repellent tends to be crucial. The forest mosquitoes have superpowers, very nearly. It’s helpful if you carry binoculars for spotting those far-off animals. Really extremely helpful. So, you must stay hydrated. And stick with your group and take heed of what the guide says so that you have safe encounters!

Is This Two-Day Trip Really Worth It?

To the million-dollar question: so too, does this trip make a ton of sense for all to actually participate in it or not. Right, I’d argue, yes, with a few caveats, like you? If you’re pressed for time and want a glimpse of Indian wildlife without planning all of the details yourself, so it can actually be a great choice for one. That the package helps make all logistics easier, yet bear in mind that wildlife watching comes down to luck, pretty much. So, don’t go in expecting to actually spot a tiger and, maybe, you won’t get frustrated if you actually don’t see any tigers and whatnot. Also: Those who have time, or if that is of concern, the expense for such short travel, will prefer something with an increased timeframe.

Key Takeaways:

  • Driving for a long time to arrive early.
  • The accommodation is essential, not especially luxurious.
  • The safari zone bookings has to be in advance for sure.
  • Going, usually, with zero expectation about a tiger watch out to the forest is extremely important.
  • Get packed with the important items that can help give an experience!
