As I was saying, after leaving Avola, one of the first main destinations often is Marzamemi, really, a petite fishing village that’s actually packed with Sicilian charm. Anyway, arriving by boat provides a quite stunning perspective, apparently, compared to driving in. Seemingly, as you approach, what you might notice mostly is the old tonnara (tuna processing plant), which, in a way, has been turned into restaurants and boutique shops. So that is sort of cool. We, as a matter of fact, took a walk around the central piazza, Piazza Regina Margherita, that clearly buzzes with life. Just, picture this, anyway: cobblestone streets, too it’s almost quaint buildings painted in pretty bright colors, and that vibe is so chilled. Just, it seems perfect, that. Naturally, this place kind of is special because that, here, the Ionian and Mediterranean seas come together. Very few times is there the feeling of really standing at a tip of sorts, I mean, it is. So, what’s here? Basically, you can check out the island of Capo Passero, just a short boat ride from the mainland. Right, on the island, there may be an old fort, so I am told, dating back to the time when, you know, the Spanish were in charge of the show, a rather fascinating thing for anyone interested in a piece of history. Well, clearly there is a good amount to explore here and, as I was saying, this is quite an awesome sight. At the end of the day, so what? You probably just should.

Lunch on Board

As a matter of fact, one of the awesome parts of doing a private boat tour clearly is lunch served right on board. Usually, that involves some freshly prepared Sicilian food, by the way, very local to that region, more or less. Very typically, you are getting the likes of seafood pasta or a selection of regional cheeses and cured meats, possibly all sourced from nearby towns. Like, depending on your boat crew, the menu really might be, more or less, a personalized selection, something you’ve pre-agreed. Obviously, imagine feasting on tasty food while anchored in a gorgeous bay, well, doesn’t that sound nice? I mean, at the end of the day, you will want food.
