Review: Funny Day Biking, Farming, Buffalo Riding, and Basket Boat
Okay, so you’re thinking about spicing up your Vietnam trip with something a little bit different, right? Maybe something that gets you out of the regular tourist spots? That’s where this “Funny Day” biking, farming, buffalo, and basket boat adventure comes in. It sounds, well, kind of quirky, doesn’t it? I gave it a shot, and here’s my honest take on whether it’s worth adding to your travel plans. After all, sometimes the most unusual experiences turn out to be the most memorable.
The Biking Begins: A Ride Through Rice Paddies
The tour very starts with a bike ride, and it is mostly pretty chill. You know, you’re pedaling through the countryside, so you get to see a side of Vietnam that is very different from the hectic city centers. Think vibrant rice paddies that stretch out seemingly forever, so small villages, and locals going about their daily lives. The bikes themselves? Well, they’re not exactly high-end mountain bikes, or anything fancy. They are more of the kind that get the job done. Still, the scenery kind of more than makes up for it. That said, if you’re used to super smooth city cycling, be prepared for some, a little, bumpy paths.
And honestly, it’s almost not just about the physical activity of biking. I found that it was more about immersing yourself in the surroundings, in a way. Stopping every so often to take photos of farmers working in the fields, too, watching water buffalo lazily grazing, you know. It’s that kind of stuff. I remember one point where we stopped by this little roadside stall. They had fresh fruit smoothies. This old lady made them, so, too it’s almost as though she could see right through you. Best smoothie I had the entire trip, alright? Little moments like that stick with you, I guess.
Getting Your Hands Dirty: A Taste of Farming Life
Alright, next up: farming. Don’t picture yourself driving tractors, right? This is a much more hands-on, a little rustic experience. That means things such as learning how to plant rice seedlings. It looks easy when the farmers do it, that it’s certainly another thing when you’re ankle-deep in muddy water trying to get these tiny plants to stay put. It’s actually rather humbling, I have to say.
You also get to learn about the different farming techniques, so about the tools they use. You learn about, you know, the daily grind that farmers go through to put food on tables, which is something you don’t appreciate until you’re standing there with mud squishing between your toes, of course. They have all kinds of other little farming things that you can have a go at, just to enhance your appreciation for farming life.
Buffalo Backs and Bliss: A Unique Ride
Now, this bit is, might be, arguably the most unique part of the whole tour. I mean, how often do you get to ride a buffalo, right? Let me tell you, it’s not exactly like riding a horse. It’s, could be, a bit wobbly. Still, it’s just such a cool experience, kind of slowly lumbering through the fields. You know, you’ve got the wind in your hair, and you’re perched on top of this gentle giant.
The buffalo, I think its name was Bob, or something that sounds very similar. Bob seemed totally unconcerned, pretty much just doing his thing, alright. It’s actually, as a matter of fact, very calming, in a way, and again, makes for some really great photos. My advice would be: don’t wear anything you’re too attached to, okay? Because you’re probably going to get a bit muddy. And just enjoy the ride, you. It’s very unusual to say the very least. Actually, anyway, you can boast to people when you go home!
Drifting Along: Basket Boat Adventures
So the basket boat. This is kind of more or less an iconic image of central Vietnam. Basically, these are these round, woven boats, in short. To be honest they seem like they’d tip over the whole time. Local fishermen use them to get around. You get to hop in one. You, like your captain will paddle you through these waterways. A lot of the time this is through a mangrove forest. It’s kind of like a little water-based maze, if that makes any sense. That said, just a little bit of encouragement in the form of currency often unlocks great and hilarious shows from the paddle-people.
And honestly, anyway it’s really peaceful. This is just floating along. You, know, you are looking at the trees. Watching the birds. In fact it’s arguably pretty cool seeing these fishermen casting their nets, alright. Some tours even include a bit of fishing yourself, so that could be an added bonus. That said, prepared to get splashed, probably. These boats aren’t exactly designed for speed, like your captain often likes to prove with donuts and weaving motions!. It can be rather comical, really.
Who’s This Tour Good For?
So this “Funny Day” tour, it’s very fitting, might be, right for all types, basically. But it’s very suited to some more than others, actually. I’d honestly say that it’s perfect if:
- You are a person or couple looking to have unique, quirky, almost random experiences
- Your travel-style is that of “easy-going, no hassle, relaxed and with a sense of humour”
- A more traditional experience seems quite boring, alright.
- Anyone who wants a lot of Instagram moments (yes, it is good for that!)
There might be some times when this would be a poor fit. As a matter of fact I wouldn’t recommend it to:
- Business travellers or people with not a lot of time
- Luxury, 5-star resort-only kind of traveller
- The elderly
- Anyone who takes themself or others very seriously
Practicalities to Consider
Now, just a little tips and things for doing a tour that involves doing lots of separate things in a humid and fairly wet area!
- What to Wear: Clothes that are good with humidity! Linen or something light that breathes, alright. Don’t wear something you are too protective of. You know, that is to say, don’t wear your favourite stuff! You might consider packing some insect repellent, okay? So Vietnam bugs don’t bother you.
- What to Bring: Sunscreen and some money is all you are going to need, actually. Of course, take a camera. If you do have a dry bag you might be pleased to use it for this particular kind of tour
- Know Your Limits: If you are physically not 100% up for it on the day, honestly, don’t do the bike bit! You can ask for an alternative! No good ruining everyone else’s day because you didn’t want to seem unintrepid!.
Overall Verdict: Is the “Funny Day” Tour Worth It?
So, anyway, that is to say, would I recommend this “Funny Day” tour? In a way, it’s an absolute yes, pretty much! You know, If you’re after an authentic experience that gets you off the tourist trail, it’s, could be, a great choice. Just don’t expect perfection, okay? It is a bit rustic around the edges, of course, that’s part of its charm! I can imagine this will be an enjoyable element for most!. You get to meet local people and connect, on some level. Experience life from the opposite of a tour bus. So, actually you can immerse yourself in what central Vietnam has to offer, just.
