Queen Elizabeth National Park Safari: 2-Day Trip Review
Dreaming of a quick trip to Uganda to glimpse some amazing wildlife? A two-day safari to Queen Elizabeth National Park could just be what you want! Let’s see, is that adventure worthwhile? I thought I would let you get to know my adventure to offer some insights so you can decide if it is what you’d hope it is.
Planning the Adventure
I will admit, planning my trip was something, too it’s almost as exciting as the trip itself! I spent ages researching tour operators, reading reviews, and comparing prices. It is important, really, that you get an operator who knows the park inside and out. I chose a local company with loads of great feedback. Very vital, actually, as that helped me arrange transport from Kampala, park fees, accommodation, and a game drive, all included in one package. Remember that!
What to Pack: Don’t overlook comfortable clothing! Think light layers, a hat, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Very much so, that early morning chill can really take you by surprise! A decent camera is a must, or it may even be two, as well, if, that is, you hope to capture the amazing wildlife sightings. Do bring binoculars for getting those zoomed-in views of the creatures. Do not forget a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. It is indeed the African sun you’ll be in after all. It’s a must-do, too, just in case.
Day 1: The Drive and Evening Game Drive
The drive from Kampala can be a bit long, admittedly, that it is. Expect roughly six to seven hours. At the end of the drive are wonderful landscapes that unfold, or should I say, give way, to reveal the gorgeous Ugandan countryside! You’ll see green rolling hills, small villages, and plantations. As a matter of fact, by the time you reach Queen Elizabeth National Park, anticipation has well and truly ramped up. Usually.
Afternoon Arrival: I got to the lodge sometime during mid-afternoon, too it’s almost the perfect time to unpack and grab a quick breather before getting started. A quick bite to eat and there will be someone waiting. Is that perfect timing, or what? Usually. The accommodation options can vary widely. Very, very, in truth, that some offer basic rooms, while others are more luxury-style lodges with views of the savanna. Either way, there’s often a relaxing atmosphere to take it easy in.
Evening Game Drive: That evening, after that relaxing afternoon tea break, was my first actual introduction to the park’s wildlife. Oh wow! Picture this: the sun slowly beginning to sink as it bathes the savanna in soft orange light. As a matter of fact, that’s a view that sticks with you. The guide will probably drive you through chosen tracks, basically looking for animals as they start becoming a little bit more active when it gets cooler. As a matter of fact, I got to glimpse elephants, buffalos, Uganda kobs, and a bunch of different bird species! The highlight? You could witness lions or leopards beginning their hunting, usually. It is amazing what can be experienced within a few hours.
Day 2: Morning Game Drive and the Kazinga Channel Boat Safari
Did you know? An early wake-up call is vital for the second day as that morning game drive offers some entirely unique viewing opportunities. Getting up is kind of hard for a morning person, you know, like your own truly! Still, there will be somebody watching! Seriously! At dawn, predators might just still be active, very possibly hunting after the cover of darkness. I can tell you! It might be that there are a lot more animals about before it gets really hot.
Morning Game Drive: Did I just tell you about seeing predators? So, it’s highly possibly! With the rising sun slowly coming into view, everything slowly began coming into view as if somebody cranked up the lights! Unlike yesterday’s drive! This time it was hippos, hyenas, maybe even, that’s right, a pride of lions lounging after, you understand, what could well be an active night. Remember!
Kazinga Channel Boat Safari: Right after, next on my itinerary that time was a boat trip along the Kazinga Channel. The waterway connects Lake Edward and Lake George. More or less a spot teeming with birdlife. Is that a birdwatcher’s paradise? So it should be! Imagine getting close to loads of birds like the African fish eagle, kingfishers, and pink-backed pelicans. We got close enough, just a bit, actually, as the boat cruises along the shoreline so as to be able to see elephants and buffalos as they came to the water’s edge to quench their thirst. Seriously. If you take that boat tour you’ll think of me.
Accommodation Options
Accommodation close to and within Queen Elizabeth National Park is indeed varied to fit everyone’s pocketbook. Pretty! Everything from places on a shoestring to high end choices are offered, depending on your budget. Is that something, too it’s almost like picking one, then wishing for something different!
Budget-Friendly Options: You will have to consider the places that offer simple yet totally clean rooms, you know, like your common or garden. A little! But just like your own style, and there are these places that do not fail in supplying beds, bathrooms, and meals for visitors looking for affordable prices. By the way! Did you know that lodging could very likely be a guesthouse situated just outside the park.
Mid-Range Lodges: Are you not one for budget-style places? Pretty much! So you might be thinking about that mid-range resort that provides an amazing balance between that thing we call expense and a little luxury, right? Something, really, about the resort which will make your own mind and body totally satisfied! At the end of the day it’s all you, but remember me if you choose this lodge. Do remember, very much, now!
Luxury Lodges: Now it may be, arguably, a full splurge for visitors seeking an unmatched degree of pampering during the wild safari, you might not know. However, one with very, actually elegant decor, awesome views, and individual services you’ll get by selecting resorts right, well, within these more plush rooms. But the real reason why a safari-er may opt to choose luxury, clearly, will be to get a totally wild experience!
Tips for a great Safari Trip
A tour needs much planning as such! So here’s some advice.
Best Time to Visit: Thinking what season of the year offers the greatest experiences to spot game, yet, is extremely hard to fully know! However. If one has intentions on watching a huge numbers of animals it could easily be either that place may, clearly, is within a dry season or within a couple of the drier months. Pretty much. Is what I am trying to emphasize right now for anyone that’s thinking about experiencing more animals on safari.
What to Wear: Consider it pretty essential for wearing long sleeved pants and tee-shirts to defend ourselves against ticks and sunburn. Okay! I’m totally not a big fan about color choices either when choosing what’s ideal or what’s practical for this environment though.
Photography Tips: Ensure your own camera happens with good levels in its own optical capacity just for picking up details with great length. Something with those close wildlife moments? Well of course! Still that thing just happens on safari; one can even obtain some incredible photographs that day after one brings all such camera accessories. Pretty amazing?
Potential Downsides
Okay I can tell you now that safari won’t come entirely lacking in probable negative things!
Long Drives: It could also well be long drives traveling by road especially those with beginning destinations such a place with Kampala. Of course this might need very careful preparation.
Cost: Such trip will come a little bit much because there are payments afoot that would include accommodations as well entrance towards wildlife habitats. Well you are gonna cough upwards if your own intentions just are within gaining this all such fantastic trips at any given park!
Limited Time: Should one really hope within achieving lots more time in visiting specific habitats a shorter park trips one would assume it’d possibly prevent just really gaining the entire area well-enough!
Is it Worth It?
If that you might only perhaps get an extremely finite sum one day in safari but yet dreaming to get such one spectacular event just such a couple working week adventure toward that areas around QENP I may definitely give one’s approval on said trip. You’ll also gain such incredible wildlife experience! Really truly magnificent to get even one quick encounter.
