Quad Excursions Alcantara Etna Review: Is it Worth It?
Sicily, is that island of sunny skies, lemon groves, and historical sights, right, too it has an adventure side just waiting to be explored, very much so, if you ask me, right? Now, when I looked into different ways to experience both Mount Etna and the Alcantara Gorges, quad biking, at the end of the day, felt like it could be just a bit different, if that makes sense, doesn’t it? In the end, I mean, this review gives you my honest thoughts on Quad Excursions Alcantara Etna – is that the thrills are actually worth it, or do you feel, just like I did a little bit at the end, as though they might fall a bit short, almost?
Booking and Initial Impressions: That It Looked Easy
I located various companies providing quad excursions, and Quad Excursions Alcantara Etna had rather a nice-looking website, in a way, so booking seemed pretty easy, right? We picked, you see, the “Etna and Alcantara Gorges” tour, just because it looked to be a full day of adventure that way, or something, that, you see, could be it. That said, it cost, actually, about €150 per person, as a matter of fact, yet this seemed pretty standard for, like your, these types of tours, sort of, I suppose. Initially, I was looking forward to being given what I’d call an intimate experience of Sicily’s natural landscapes and, literally, a pretty big thrill.
The Etna Quad Bike Tour: A Bit of a Rocky Ride, Right?
The morning began, honestly, with a pickup from our accommodation – which, you know, was definitely a nice touch, I suppose, and stuff, you know? Now, when we got to the base, just a little way away from Mount Etna, you know, there was, like your, a quick briefing about, very much, safety and operation, that you kind of need, seriously. I will say this, anyway, so there was that a fairly extensive off-road trek. We, like, rode through, maybe, cooled lava flows and wooded parts of the volcano, to be honest. Okay, right, this part of the trip presented a special kind of view and some quite exciting moments on rocky terrain – really great in short bursts of enjoyment, you get me?
Yet, by the way, it might be that the experience started out fine, yet I just found the quads to be slightly old and perhaps in need of some maintenance too, okay? Also, as I was saying, the ride got a bit bumpy and, really, uncomfortable after a while for my taste. Even though that isn’t the fault of the team specifically, at the end of the day. As a matter of fact, dust was another bit of an issue too. In fact, there was such a huge cloud of it being kicked up by the quads, you could be forgiven for finding it, almost, slightly tricky to see at some times.
Exploring the Alcantara Gorges: Pretty Neat Views But, I Mean, Limited Time
We headed, honestly, to the Alcantara Gorges after our time up on Etna – kind of the second half of the excursion and stuff. Obviously, honestly, I’d heard about these awesome gorges formed by lava flows many years ago. After that, erosion caused really neat canyons to come to be. That, it’s almost, did sound incredible, really. On arrival, anyway, right, it became obvious pretty quickly that we, like, weren’t going to get a really great, in-depth look at the site, that we got driven to this area close to the Alcantara River Park entrance.
That, I think, could be because it only granted us access to a small bit of the lower gorges that are almost overrun with tourists, as a matter of fact, seriously. Of course, naturally, if you only have an hour there, and, like, half of that is just for traveling to and from that part from your parked quad, so this is kind of just a fleeting visit. I did expect something more of a rugged immersion instead, seriously, to be fair. That’s the truth.
The Guides and Group Size: I Mean, a Bit of a Mixed Bag Really
We learned during our ride that the tour guides accompanying our group were, really, actually, locals and knowledgeable to some degree about, more or less, both Etna and the Alcantara area and so on. However, the guides just weren’t quite, almost, so engaged in providing any sort of info. Maybe they have done this way, extremely, many times and it becomes a bit less enjoyable? Either way, very, very little interaction. With our group being on the larger side (around ten quads, if I remember alright), I couldn’t help but feel like it made, just slightly, almost, an individualized experience slightly challenging and not the experience for people. In short, so, this hurt our capacity to ask any more questions or get a lot of extra knowledge beyond the ride itself.
Overall Value and Recommendations: Worth It?, As I Was Saying, With Caveats
Is Quad Excursions Alcantara Etna a tour worth taking? You kind of get a “yes, but…” It gave, just, you, me that rush of excitement from driving across some pretty amazing landscapes. I did find something a bit disappointing. If, at the end of the day, the operator made investment in a set of more up to date equipment, the issue of this dust would have been something of an issue. Additionally, right, small changes in tour direction (allowing extra time down near those stunning gorges, or getting access to fewer touched bits) can improve enjoyment. If the company sorted these problems out, I could just advise that. If you’re, basically, seriously looking to get that experience without breaking your bank it will work just fine! As a matter of fact, don’t go in anticipating what might be that unique day trip if it, like your, just is never going to reach that heights, kind of, sort of?
- Pros: Seriously awesome landscapes and a bit of that adrenaline when you move.
- Cons: Pretty worn down gear, hardly any information that might be shared by the trip leaders. Plus, by the way, those areas were almost overflowing with lots of those crowds!
- Tip: Take, very, glasses and coverings as I was saying so as not breath any bit of such awful air from such dust and don’t also except more like what actually delivered.
