So, where do you start with exploring Sarajevo? Baščaršija, is the oldest part of the city. The hub is very appealing because of the little shops selling everything from handmade crafts, that is what caught my attention, and, too, there are these delicious local sweets. It’s almost like getting thrown into some type of time capsule. You are probably wondering about other historical spots? Then you should really check out the Latin Bridge. That’s is where Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated – very historic! For a bit of peace and quiet, there’s the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque. Its design is truly something. If you are down for venturing out, there’s that Sarajevo Tunnel. Or I should say, “Tunnel of Hope.” That has been made kind of like an essential spot for understanding Sarajevo’s wartime experience. You would have to crawl via a tiny section of that original tunnel used to ferry supplies into that besieged city. Too, it feels kind of harrowing, of course, but incredibly poignant. It kind of serves like a very deep reminder of that strength of that people and of human resilience. In my mind it is a must see! Is that worth visiting? Yes!

Is a Day Trip Enough?

Here’s where things could get a bit tricky. Is a single day sincerely enough time to do justice to Sarajevo? I guess it relies upon what you’re hoping to get out of it. In a single day, you are more than capable of hitting all of those significant landmarks. That would leave time to gobble up a big ol’ plate of cevapi and wander Baščaršija. That said, to immerse yourself within Sarajevo’s vibe? And to connect with the place? That might need more than just a quick visit. Though, it is fair for the saying, something’s better than nothing.
