Prague’s Museum of Fantastic Illusions: A Fun Review

If you’re after something that, like, sparks your sense of playfulness, or maybe you’re trying to find some cool photo opportunities in Prague, then visiting the Museum of Fantastic Illusions could very well be just what you’re looking for. Situated fairly close to Old Town Square, which, by the way, is already pretty packed with sights, it’s a very easily accessible escape into, I suppose you could say, a twisted version of reality. I have been there now, like, two times, once with a group of friends and then again later with my family, and very, very surprisingly, both visits provided, sort of, unique experiences. That is to say, it’s more than just gazing at a few displays; rather, it’s where, to be honest, you actually get involved. Very often the museum is full with people snapping pictures and generally having, sort of, good time playing with perception. This cleverly structured space uses distorted perspective to seemingly make people, honestly, either shrink or grow as they move across the room, and honestly it’s almost impossible to not laugh at the visual trickery at play. Then there’s, potentially, the levitation illusion, which I honestly cannot describe; very surprisingly, with, honestly, some careful positioning and, naturally, some photographic skills, you almost can look as though you’re floating on air, something that actually had all of us bursting into fits of laughter, literally! Not just that, there are a number of hologram and stereogram displays which play, kind of, on your eyes to show images popping out seemingly out of thin air. All this adds to the experience where basically every turn almost brings a new “How did they actually do that?!” moment, almost, too it’s true.

If I was suggesting stuff for planning your outing, consider, I suppose, purchasing tickets in advance online; this may actually, easily help to, you know, dodge the possibility of long lines at the ticket counter. To me that feels really worth it. Also, if the plan, like, involves taking photos—which it certainly should, you really should think about bringing a phone or a camera which is easy for, you know, moving around, as well as someone very handy to take the pictures for you; it helps big time! Also it tends to be that location is pretty superb meaning accessibility almost isn’t an issue, also rendering it that convenient stop any day trip itineraries, almost as, you know, almost that ‘breather’ amongst much historic exploring across Prague, seriously.
