Portland Columbia Gorge Waterfalls Tour: A Detailed Review

Portland Columbia Gorge Waterfalls Tour

Looking at getting out of the city for a bit? Visiting the Portland area, so too you’re wanting to see a bit of the surrounding landscape? Well, arguably there are few better options than a day trip out to the Columbia River Gorge. It’s practically overflowing with natural attractions, and arguably the biggest draws are its pretty amazing waterfalls. Plenty of tours leave from Portland pretty often, giving folks like your truly a super simple way to scope out sights like Multnomah Falls and the many other places you could check out. So, as a matter of fact, I ended up hopping on one of these tours myself to get a closer look, and here’s my story on what the whole experience was pretty much like.

Booking and Starting the Tour

Tour Booking

Picking which tour can be, in a way, kind of a lot, but that’s also true for basically all things in life, actually. You can apparently search online, and you will literally get tons of different companies offering these excursions, or instead ask the hotel concierge people. Reading up on a few reviews is that thing I usually like to do, as well as comparing the different itineraries and prices. That having been taken care of, you need to make some actual plans. After having checked a few things out, I settled on “From Portland,” because it had some places I super wanted to scope out. The pricing was within my budget too. So anyway, the booking bit was simple – just went to their website, picked my date, and boom, I had a spot locked down.

The day finally arrived, and I got my rear down to the departure place right in downtown. It was pretty darn easy to spot with everyone milling around ready to go explore. Checking in didn’t take much time, plus the tour guide, a pretty perky individual, gave all of us like, the basic rundown of the plan. She was really welcoming, like your fave aunt or grandma, and basically explained where we were heading, a little, slightly, bit about what we were checking out, and pretty important things such as washroom breaks.

The Ride and the Vibe

Tour Ride

The coach bus itself was pretty comfortable, with air conditioning and big viewing windows, which were, to be honest, ideal to, very, much enjoy the landscapes rolling by. During the ride out to the Gorge, our guide regaled us with history, a bit about local trivia, and basically goofy tales, making for what was a ride that kept us super glued to our seats. It wasn’t simply getting from Point A to Point B; it had this entertaining and what was, anyway, a pretty enriching vibe too, you see?

The thing that made it so good was that the person on point to give us the deets was into sharing the history. As a matter of fact she would explain the geology behind these interesting things, she’d also point out interesting plants or like, animals or the story behind why places are called the name they are, you see? So that just kind of made the whole outing more than it literally seemed to be, right?

Multnomah Falls: A Crown Jewel

Multnomah Falls

Our first stop? Apparently one of the highest waterfalls throughout the United States – Multnomah Falls. And, honestly, it looked cool in the photos, very, very striking. But up in-person? That literally brought it up another level! The water falls really far, falling super fast down the cliffs, with a booming sound – this all makes one experience. Basically anyone should have this on their Oregon bucket list if there were to be such a thing, is what I’m saying. There is a little, small foot trail there to walk on up toward a bridge; just to, like, stare real up close is an, I suppose, outstanding viewpoint, in any case.

The lodge near the falls is pretty amazing too. And basically a good place for picking up any cool souvenirs, or perhaps just have that needed caffeine buzz or tasty stuff to keep you happy before hopping into a tour bus, and you are soon headed to the next amazing place. The tour normally gives you just a fair, quite amount of downtime right here, which is like a blessing for people that truly would like to fully savor every single breath in without getting that super touristy rush feeling too, as well.

Exploring Other Gorge Gems

Columbia Gorge Gems

While Multnomah stole the show, the tour actually includes additional gems that made it all really worthwhile. We made it over to a bit, some very, different overlooks offering what I have to assume were vast sights. The cool thing about that Gorge happens when it offers way much things aside waterfalls. Very scenic vistas, the huge Columbia flowing along so peacefully that contrasts greatly coming from places such as home. The tour guide pointed out stuff, just, literally educating at every bit as they unfolded – about geologic formations on unique ecological settings. A pretty smart and also interesting person too, really. I mean this kind of person would make you think “I kinda wish I’d studied that type of stuff,” you see?

Another stop the company takes your carcass to, is it! the Bonneville Dam – which may prove intriguing when one needs to peek over and what goes down throughout those massive engineering marvels which help in providing power on the state and apparently facilitate boat navigating on the river too! We took a stab by scouting out these fish ladder places when salmon are ascending upstream – like what a bit of proof over one power of our nature going round these human hurdles!

What About a Few Hitches Along The Trip?

Possible Tour Issues

There always can, in theory, happen minor challenges any tour that your persona signs to right? The popularity that Gorge receives pretty makes getting pretty populated with traffic especially during summer. And also a little, short hiccup on your route should arguably create mild congestion on it but with experienced and careful person that literally drives a ride along? Very, the wheels basically kept switching along just keeping our schedule in any case.

Also literally, as much the company tries assuring you perfect experiences the uncontrollable bit concerning Mother Nature may go on just impacting vision out when peering along overlooks or at times cause short route changes from these temporary closing in trails for safety and that thing, to keep people fine to be quite blunt about anything. However the most efficient operators basically keep alternate ideas and a lot better and so forth just in managing through all and make experiences turn worth from anyone joining along, obviously.

Suggestions and Final Ideas on the Tour

Final Tour Ideas

Thus, if it ends up coming up about literally snagging an actual day for Portland around such that awesome Gorge falls thing I just could suggest snagging an arranged organized type trips. A few thoughts there I will have?

  • Dress appropriate: Actually Mother Nature might switch her whims and fancies quite wildly that just would require on packing wearing within few weather instances that one goes along when outside scoping or along your stroll or getting close by some cascade location; layered gear would seem that actual type!
  • Come along having batteries all in: From sceneries which may cause any jaw drop, that it probably is your urge just on shooting tons those memorable reels and so your units come prepared, or having those batteries going dry before some real scenic viewpoints basically.
