Pokhara: Your 7-Day Mardi Himal Trek Review (Meals & Guide)
So, you are thinking of tackling the Mardi Himal Trek, right from Pokhara and all, in a way, and you are also probably curious if a guide and meals are a great shout? As a matter of fact, you have come to basically the right place! I’m going to walk you through the lowdown of my own time with a 7-day package, more or less focusing on what rocked, what, in that case, could’ve been slicker, and that kind of thing, really. We will be talking about everything from the killer views to the grub and if, really, a guide is seriously a must, basically.
Why Mardi Himal, You Know?
Okay, first, why choose Mardi Himal over, like, any other trek in Nepal, do you know? Well, for starters, it’s slightly a gem, nestled pretty close to the crazy popular Annapurna Base Camp, in some respects, but it sees way fewer peeps, so, right? You get this experience, the big mountain scenery without the big crowds, usually. I mean, honestly, you are talking snowy peaks, lush forests of rhododendron (that’s if you time it right, of course), and views, well I mean the views stretching on forever, in other words. And the best bit? Like it’s doable in around a week, so really handy if you are strapped for time, actually.
The Allure of the Shorter, Quieter Trek
This trek’s real magic is that you, for instance, feel properly out there. You know, you’re heading to more remote, untrodden paths quickly, kind of. Compare that to the Annapurna trail where, as I was saying, you might pass people every five minutes. I mean, the Mardi Himal route allows a way deeper connection with nature. That, as a matter of fact, coupled with views that seem they have been pinched straight from a postcard, well I mean it creates like this special mix that had me hooked from pretty much day one, by the way. The chance, at the end of the day, to soak in such beauty and such calm really? Honestly, that makes this trek an easy pick if you ask me, you see?
What To Actually Expect On The Trail, Really?
As I was saying, the Mardi Himal Trek in 7 days isn’t really just a walk; it’s a proper workout that serves up a great reward if you push, basically. You will begin, for example, in Pokhara, right, which acts as like the launchpad for just about every adventure in the Annapurna region. That, in other words, is coupled with jeep ride, typically taking you closer to where the trails kick off, you know. Each day has, in a way, something new – from lush, green hills to more tough climbs, by the way showing that the nature is always throwing new obstacles in your face.
Day-By-Day Snapshot, you see?
I mean, day one will probably be you traveling, perhaps, and prepping for your climb. Next up it will most likely mean you going to Kande and Forest Camp. I would probably suggest this as a very chill leg that would last you about 5 hours. Forest Camp is nice to sleep over and prep yourself up, right. Then the real adventure actually opens up with you needing to tackle Low Camp on day two. Now, to be honest this climb ain’t no joke! It will have some fairly steep hills that take roughly 6-7 hours if you pace yourself right. After, I mean day 3 opens with High Camp and it really does live up to it’s name – the thin air may get you really light headed – if it is, try and take is very slow! Mardi Himal Base Camp comes next, and I’d say try and aim for the summit, in other words, around sunrise to maximize the great scenery. Lastly it will be all down-hill coming down Low Camp to Siding Village. Now, alright, don’t let this last stretch fool you because it may feel very easy after tackling the base camp. To be honest you need to have enough juice left in the tank, since the hike can take up to 7 hours. Honestly, this journey gave me more than just stunning landscapes. That, as a matter of fact, also allowed for this incredible experience that will change, in my experience, how you approach future travel, you know?
Having a Guide & Getting Your Belly Full – Totally Worth It, you know?
Having someone who knew the trails was almost a godsend if you want to do this, for example, right? Seriously, my guide was great – pointing out cool spots, dealing with permits (that saved me such a headache), and mostly just knowing how fast to actually pace it. If you think that, right, navigation will be a breeze based of others that have tackled this hill, alright, try another. Sometimes you may see no soul around you and may begin wondering if you are properly on the trail. What, more or less, could have become this proper crisis was sorted with way more local info than, that, you will find online, do you see?
Meals: What’s on the Table?, you know?
Included meals often translated to basic, filling grub that will fuel you on, okay? Expect lots of dahl baht – a very massive rice and lentil situation that’s just perfect for energy if you push on. Most likely the breakfasts typically consisted of bread, maybe some eggs, right, that kind of thing. As a matter of fact, I even picked up a habit of eating way more garlic soup because of it! Make sure, arguably, to be frank if there’s anything you will simply not try, alright?
The Highs, The Lows, The Verdict?
Alright, so now it is time for this breakdown – what was sick and, well, what could be a bit slicker? The vistas, most likely – top tier. Honestly, some of the scenery legitimately felt out of this earth, in some respects. The peaceful atmosphere as well was a big plus – properly escaping madness for a bit. Like support from my guide was crazy good, more or less especially since he, as a matter of fact, knew his stuff with altitude adjustments that may prove important to keep in check for you.
Potential Snags?
The food could perhaps get kinda repetitive – packing your own goodies is likely a good idea, okay. The climb can get steep at points if you start struggling – decent fitness does assist loads. It is also, apparently, worth checking when peak season happens in this trek. In conclusion try not to rush yourself. The amount of stuff you can experience with this trek is truly remarkable!
