How to get there, so you actually arrive!

Reaching Pedra do Telegrafo, very much starts in Rio, anyway from the main tourist zones, is more or less, of an exploration, more of the adventure. Don’t get too worried. So, first you may want to head to Barra da Guaratiba, seems like it’s this really pleasant seaside neighborhood. From there, arguably you can catch a local van or taxi up to the trailhead. Usually, vans leave near the main square in Barra da Guaratiba, you know they are pretty common for it. Be aware it tends to be crowded during the high season. The trailhead is on the smaller side.

Breaking Down the Hiking Details. Not Too Difficult!

Okay, let’s talk hiking: The path up to Pedra do Telegrafo actually tends to be moderately easy. It can take like maybe an hour, give or take. The thing is that, the trail winds through the Atlantic Forest, very much giving you glimpses, here and there, of the coastline. Do keep in mind, very often it gets rather hot, especially around midday, so actually bring plenty of water. If you like to walk, just do it and take it slowly too.

Photographing Pedra do Telegrafo the Cool Way. Some insider information!

When you get there at the famous rock, that creates the famous Telegraph Stone Illusion. First, patience, might be pretty useful. In reality, there’s almost certainly a queue. You may want to get there early, because its is when lines tend to be way shorter and the light’s, as a matter of fact, just beautiful. And for photos that are genuinely impressive? Position the camera so you see as little background as possible and I think it really does help.

How to Chill at a Nearby Beach and Unwind

You know what else, so, Pedra do Telegrafo is pretty much super close to a couple of the wildest and most pristine beaches close to Rio. Guess what?, after your hike, why don’t you take some time to hang around Praia do Perigoso or maybe, Grumari Beach. They’re like the picture, very gorgeous way to kick back after you took those pictures. Pretty amazing Right?

Praia do Perigoso Beach Brazil

How to reach Praia do Perigoso for relaxation. Walking and swimming.

First, Praia do Perigoso usually involves a bit more hiking. I mean, you can descend from the Telegraph Stone area toward the coast and the walking on the way down its is so awesome! Actually you may want to pack some sturdy shoes. Once you reach it, you may like to see a very secluded spot where the water is crystal clear. A wild beach! Actually the waves can be, relatively, strong though, still use caution while swimming, even though it’s super nice.

Or: How to enjoy Grumari Beach instead, very chill too

Now Grumari Beach is much easier, arguably you can reach with transportation. I think is one of Rio’s truly wildest and really longest beaches, very good if you feel you can. Unlike Perigoso, that, turns out to be a really easy spot to get to and what’s cool, usually there are kiosks for food and drinks nearby. You will feel the breeze after all the hard work to be there, believe it. Is that what you expected from a long trip to Rio? Is it?

Making your visit super fun, my useful tips

I mean, think about what you wanna get. First, get started early; actually bring enough water and some snacks. On the rock you might have to wait. Think you need to protect yourself from sun (use SPF50 for sure). Plan how you will arrive there, maybe a taxi will be useful.

  • Go early: to avoid long lines, too its almost, just, really, hot weather
  • Water and Snacks: I’m suggesting bring some.
  • Sun Protection: The sun arguably can be strong. Sunscreen and a hat, seriously a most have!
  • Footwear: So wear good hiking shoes, still you never know where the day will end.
  • Plan transportation in advance: Specially during peak hours, just to make it faster and enjoyable
