Path of the Gods Hike: An Honest Review

Right, so the Path of the Gods is quite the big name when you think about hikes near Sorrento. The name kind of paints this grand picture, right? And the views that people capture – the sea shimmering, hills tumbling one after the other – that certainly lived in my head, that is. Now, the real question is, does the reality of it all really live up to all the hype? Well, having given it a go myself recently, I’m very happy to share, that is, all the gritty details – the good, the sweat, and even those spots that could probably use a bit of love.

Getting There: The Start of your Adventure

getting to the path of the gods

First thing is first, arriving at the trailhead can be a bit like a mini-adventure, in its own right, arguably. A couple of different roads might get you where you want to be, and selecting the perfect route depends on just where you find yourself before starting off, or maybe it depends on what method you’re depending on getting to your location, I guess. A lot of people choose to come from Positano or Praiano, I think. To do so requires depending on public transport. The bus services run by SITA SUD, in particular, offers transport between all the area. Having a ticket handy ahead of time can, often, make the travelling that tiny bit easier. Purchase these, possibly, in most newsagents, tobacconists and whatever café you have at hand. If, more like your average tourist, you are heading there from Sorrento, which is typical, trains on the Circumvesuviana line will be useful. So, getting off at the right place, often Meta, will allow catching a bus which transfers you onto the hills near to where the trails are found.

Another potential problem comes when, that you realize, that to be able to get to where you want to get, from Bomerano town, which, as a matter of fact, will be where a part of the popular trail starts from. Reaching Bomerano often has buses running a line from Amalfi. If you would be thinking of reaching the start to the trek straight away from Amalfi, it has, typically, a run that lasts 50 mins. The fun fact being here, that it can get, often, crowded so be there as fast as possible. Just think ahead and that is the key!

What to Expect on the Trail

Path of the Gods trail conditions

Okay, so the Path of the Gods is, for all accounts, famous because of its spectacular views – and they very nearly lived up to what everyone has mentioned, that is for certain. Parts of the trail are right on the edge, but there are spots along the route where things need some love. A bit where erosion did its worst and a place or two where the path gets slim, which is very slight but enough to make some more anxious if they’re the faint of heart. In short, so that your average fitness is up to the job, for all of what that implies, that being the case, I would imagine.

The whole “Path” snakes and curves and changes and each turn is, typically, another picture of, virtually, rocky coastline. You can see across the island, the azure of the sea is sparkling in the day and with mountains rising over on either side. What this shows, honestly, is one the main appeals to visiting this tourist trap. Having stated the tourist angle, the amount you find are very noticeable. If the time has come to visit in peak times you might think to arrive super early, maybe to avoid having a feeling that your trying to force your through the pathway. The experience here can and will give a better satisfaction and an overall connection by visiting during off-season and avoiding this at all costs.

For this, wear appropriate shoes, as the pathways and rock formations here will need to allow good grip in tricky spots, where balance, too, can also become useful. A strong tip I would give to the everyday traveler here, that would involve also is allowing for sun screen. If its, arguably, during summer, that is to be when its quite obvious the sunlight reflecting across the clear waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea has little to stop it reaching across the landscape and onto you.

Choosing the Right Path: High or Low?

Right, so there’s that common argument when thinking of the Path of the Gods, do I approach the higher road? The higher of the trailheads sits in Bomerano, a part of Agerola and descends downward. Some others begin the start a bit below where a lot start from, an area that sits down by Praiano – which ultimately climbs. There can be challenges whichever is selected for a journey, so pick depending on fitness and enjoy.

So that many people like choosing the downward road seems easier. Some sources are clear that getting the Bomerano-way, and getting downward is very achievable than other approaches. Even for hikers there are things to keep watch of during descents and some will pick the uphill since they think its more rewarding. But to be sure, so its very down to you what your wanting to do, I suppose!

The upward path has, you might find, more physical intensity, as some paths include, arguably, a lot of climbing. If you really, really like hiking and finding these bits are much more for you then do not give up the opportunity in life to select the upward approach. If what your seeking more from is that of a slow relaxing trip for nice places and seeing awesome places, then, clearly, its possible the downhill path might feel very much better.

Making the Most of Your Hike

Honestly, to get a good and satisfying hike the path and timing are what matter and I wouldn’t have that any other way. Getting the right timing makes all the places to explore at the pace you need, as the sounds of Sorrento flow over onto you like, I think, its pretty impressive. What is shown around also gives opportunities and sights unlike any others in places and is all good and gives the sense of Italian coast at its top potential. As such the Amalfi coast shows all it has at that moment which gives its tourist the, I suppose, “Italian Escape”.

Very useful points need to be kept in any of the hikers bag packs here. Be, clearly, certain there is water there as it shows vital when hiking, if not for, potentially, yourself but in rare occasion you see another in-need who has missed to think it through. More to point out, keep up to date and give a heads up on all the places around at different parts of the walking way, if possible that is.

Okay, so you need a great Camera right? To have this walk. It’s kind of amazing how often you can see someone overlooking great picture spaces and, for that, its a terrible opportunity gone for no good reason. Get something with enough storage space, get space. Remember that your always going to love those and look back fondly. Memories only need good visuals to come alive!

More people get, they seem to show more than others that all know these hiking locations well, but most often don’t so it matters getting them noted, this makes any great spots to show places when getting a hike with any person who wants them seen the best!

Final Verdict: Is It Worth It?

Path of the Gods overall experience

Right, so circling back to the core question: will the Path of the Gods impress everyone? A clear answer must be yes, that, too, makes the list. Any traveler seeking awesome viewing location on high levels, its awesome, the feeling and vibe about it gives back rewards beyond the obvious, I mean a good workout, its one of, honestly, lifes must dos! Its, to summarize, a lot about time keeping, time making and general safety checks is the obvious and needed prep before the fun!

One of a handful more obvious factors is, to show that most points here make for having a place filled with things needed when any hiker finds issues on ways abouts to find anything as you trek along these crazy places. And is a fantastic place! Be there as soon as possible so no time here is missed.
