Hanoi: A Whirlwind Start

Hanoi is where the tour kicked off, yeah. It’s really an absolutely beautiful mix of old and new. We started, just like that, with a city tour, hitting all the must-see spots. You are talking, Hoan Kiem Lake, Ngoc Son Temple, and the Old Quarter were ticked off that checklist very fast. Now, that part of the trip? Rather fast-paced. Walking through the Old Quarter with, just picture this, what felt like a million motorbikes whizzing around felt like a real immersion, honestly, into Hanoi’s frantic, intense daily life. That said, the schedule was so jam-packed that it felt like we were seeing things at 2x speed sometimes, you know?

That very same afternoon, yeah, we saw a water puppet show. It is the best way, a cultural experience unique to Vietnam, by the way, and, truly, very interesting, just a bit touristy. Our tour guide, it goes without saying, for the Hanoi leg, yeah, seemed quite informed and had some stories up his sleeve about the different historic landmarks, but yeah, there was that feeling, as I was saying, of being slightly rushed. Hotel in Hanoi, so, fine; you know it’s clean and okay, even though certainly nothing amazing.

Sapa: Trekking Through the Clouds

The bus ride, wow, the bus ride to Sapa – nearly a six-hour ride, very long! A comfortable sleeper bus, but still, you’re dedicating more or less an entire day just getting there. So, a thing I will say about Sapa? This place truly felt like another world, truly. When you picture those rolling rice terraces, right, they were amazingly breathtaking. So very lush green hills stretching as far as your eye can see – almost like a movie set. You’re talking, we spent the next days trekking through those unbelievable landscapes, getting a taste, kind of, for the local ethnic minority cultures.

That said, the trek was certainly challenging. If, you know, you’re not in tip-top shape, be ready. Very steep and, very slick, very easy to lose your footing at times, particularly if that’s raining. The homestay experience that we got? The way I see it, that was a real highlight of this trip. Having lunch together with a local family, and hearing stories of their life and customs, alright, that was incredibly heartwarming and a true look, truly, into Vietnamese culture. Accommodation that way, it was basic, which, so, expect. A cozy bed, though; however that, that made a difference.

Ha Long Bay: Emerald Waters and Majestic Scenery

Okay, next stop: Ha Long Bay, certainly. Another bus ride, you guessed that already. And after that a boat to that bay itself, by the way, known for its stunning limestone karsts plus emerald waters. What is that like? A sight that seems unreal. Getting on a boat to visit around those huge rock formations sticking right out of the sea? It’s quite a sight to take in. Kayaking through some of the secluded spots there, which, yeah, so nice, so peaceful. What I didn’t realize is how that experience wasn’t always as serene like, for example, the junk boats seemed packed. However, the beauty surrounding the bay made up, alright, in some form for such thing.

Food served on board the ship, alright, okay; plenty of dishes; also some of them catering the tastes geared towards international. That is not a plus if, obviously, someone expected genuine authentic dishes. We did do a stop in one of the cave formations, also. The guide showed everything there as regards the naming formations which resembled all kinds of things if only you have enough imagination! You know? Overnight onboard? Yeah, so-so. Cabins there might use the chance of improvements with more than necessary wear signs on everything from decor to shower and taps! Yet clean enough to, you know, settle the night alright.

The Good, The Bad, and The Takeaways

The Good: What do I think the main selling points are about the “Nyna Travel Northern Vietnam”? It checks three big places that way.
