So, now we began a leisurely trip down the Ngo Dong River. That goes through three caves – Hang Ca, Hang Hai, and Hang Ba – each one adorned with dripping stalactites. The scenery is beautiful, limestone cliffs rising on either side, with rice paddies stretching out like a green carpet. Now, keep your camera charged for some great photo opportunities. Also, many of the boat rowers are real experts at using their feet to do the rowing. So, don’t be afraid to give them a tip. Is that not something that is polite and shows your appreciation for all of their hard work. Do take note that local vendors are actually out on the river, and they try to sell you drinks and snacks. They tend to be a bit pushy, so a polite “no, thank you” could be just what you require if you aren’t interested.

The buffet lunch receives pretty mixed reviews in a few of the online travel forums. Yet, I am not entirely sure why. Set in a fairly standard tourist restaurant, the food wasn’t exactly gourmet, yet I am afraid that would be too much to ask of them. So, after a morning of exploring, any warm food is certainly welcome. There was also that pretty good variety of choices, mostly featuring common Vietnamese dishes. You get rice, noodles, spring rolls, stir-fried veggies, plus chicken and pork dishes. They tend to be more of the simple variety, without much in the way of heavy seasoning. As someone who loves flavorful cuisine, it was maybe a little bland for my preferences, very personally speaking. Yet, it filled me up. They are sure to give you a great deal of energy for the afternoon, that, is important, right?

Mua Cave: Conquering the Dragon for Panoramic Views

Our last stop, Mua Cave, came with a warning. To reach the viewpoint on top of the mountain you might just have to climb around 500 steps. To me this was probably the highlight of the entire trip, but arguably, it is not for the faint of heart (or those with dodgy knees). The climb is steep, that really is true, and gets pretty hot. Now, remember to pace yourself. Lots of places to stop for a breather are along the route. And trust me, the panoramic views are worth it. From the summit, you’re presented with stunning views of Tam Coc, plus the Ngo Dong River snaking its way through the landscape. The famed dragon statue is located right there too. So, do remember to snap some photographs. Plan for maybe an hour and a half here, since you would not want to have to feel rushed when trying to make your way up.

Value for Money: Is it Worth the Price Tag?
