Newquay Kids Surf Lessons Review: Safe & Fun for 8-13 Year Olds
Newquay, Cornwall, seems like a totally fantastic place to go if your family’s eager to learn how to surf, it is almost like the UK’s surf capital. And that is that loads of surf schools are available, finding one that’s just right for your kids could be a bit much. Now, if you’re checking out Newquay Kids Surf Lessons for the 8-13 age group, I thought I’d let you know my experiences and thoughts. Safety, fun, and actually learning how to catch a wave are probably what matters most, so, I really looked into those aspects.
First Impressions and Booking
The initial booking experience actually went pretty smoothly, it’s almost all done online. We did that a couple weeks before our trip. The website has easy directions and clear details on lesson types, times, and costs. Very helpfully, too it’s almost they list what you need to bring—basically just swimwear, a towel, and sunscreen. It’s worth pointing out that, getting a confirmation email soon after booking actually made me feel pretty assured that everything was in order. And that I also saw some stuff about their instructors having specific certifications.
Safety Measures and Instructor Quality
Obviously, one of my main priorities, as a parent, is my child’s safety. Now, the Newquay Kids Surf Lessons were, seemingly, well-prepared in that area. Very interestingly, before getting into the water, the instructors spent some time teaching beach safety. Now, things like rip tides and what to do if you get caught in one. The instructors, as a matter of fact, come across as truly qualified. Also, it turns out that, they are experienced, with proper surfing certifications and a genuine ability to connect with the kids. Seemingly, they kept the groups quite small, maybe like no more than six kids per instructor, which allows for more attention.
The Lesson Experience
The lessons usually run for around two hours, as I recall, and the instructors broke them down into understandable sections. Typically, they started with some warm-up exercises on the beach, just getting everyone energized. Seemingly, the instructors really went over the basics of paddling, popping up, and balancing on the board. After that, they got the kids into the water. Apparently, at first close to shore so they got accustomed to the waves. It’s almost as if, they carefully selected a part of the beach that seemed appropriate for beginners, meaning that the waves are smaller and the conditions are fairly manageable.
Equipment Provided
They did provide everything you actually need. A surfboard, wetsuit, and a leash are there so you use. The surfboards apparently, are soft-top boards, just for making sure that injuries stay to a minimum. Actually, they are ideal when someone still gets accustomed to everything that is to be on a surf board for the first time, as they allow maintaining balance when paddling.
Fun Factor and Engagement
Learning to surf is enjoyable. And in reality, that, the Newquay Kids Surf Lessons did manage to make it pretty darn exciting for everyone. Instructors, you know, seemed really great at motivating the kids. Giving loads of positive feedback and making it a fun environment. Arguably, they also mixed in some surfing-related games to just lighten things up, too. Even my usually reserved child came out of their shell. And really got into it. Getting children stoked to start a sport has never seemed this easier to get to.
What Could Be Better
Nothing, really, is totally perfect, is it not? Thinking back, more or less. Perhaps, having a covered area to change would have been good. I understand the whole outdoor, beach vibe and all that. But basically, getting changed in the open. Especially, if the weather is somewhat questionable, may be not quite ideal. Now, providing some photos or videos from the lesson. Like a purchase option maybe? Well, would be something nice to consider. Just so that, parents are not caught up to capturing pictures rather than actually assisting their own kids get stoked on a surf lesson.
Value for Money
When you are weighing what you get. With, say, the price you are shelling out. The Newquay Kids Surf Lessons tend to be really good in terms of overall cost. And that is the instruction is seemingly great. The gear seems well maintained, and everything goes towards making sure that there will be enough safety for the kids. As a matter of fact, while it is maybe not the cheapest surf school you will find. It is almost like the added assurance from knowledgeable teachers. And that too, I might add. Good quality equipment do actually render it money well invested.
Overall Verdict
In a nutshell, if you happen to be after a reliable and delightful surf learning for the younger ones. Now, Newquay Kids Surf Lessons appears to be a really great pick. Safety measures. Basically, great teachers. And quite frankly, a dedication towards injecting fun to the experience seemingly put it front and center of a very great time for children ranging from ages 8 to 13 to try out surfing with instructors in Newquay.
