Nairobi Tour Review: Getting Close to Elephants, Giraffes, and More!
Thinking about taking a day trip to see some amazing creatures near Nairobi? The “Nairobi Tour to National Park, Elephant Orphanage and Giraffe Center” could be just the thing you are seeking, arguably a top choice for a quick peek at East Africa’s fantastic wildlife, and in this review, I’m going to share my take on whether it lives up to the hype. First Stop: Nairobi National Park
The park itself is practically right next door to the city, and you know, it’s kind of wild how quickly you can go from busy streets to wide open plains! It’s almost unreal. Next Up: David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which folks usually just call the “Elephant Orphanage,” is such a place, basically tugging at your heartstrings. I think, the dedication that the keepers have for these young elephants, most rescued, well, it’s quite plain to see. The hour-long visit goes by quickly, especially as you get to watch them play, learn about their backgrounds, and maybe, very much, if you’re lucky, get a chance to touch them. It is that type of intimate experience that very much does set this tour apart. Remember to plan your day around their schedule, because visits are restricted to a specific time, basically mid-morning. The crowds get quite dense. Getting there even slightly late could lead to a bit of squeezing just to glimpse these beautiful animals, yet, in some respects, is that something that should deter you from going? No, you should experience this at least once in your lifetime.
Final Stop: Giraffe Center
The Giraffe Center gives you such a chance, right, very literally, to get eye-to-eye with these giants! The platform allows you to feed the giraffes special pellets, plus, feel their long, rough tongues as they take food straight from your hand, basically a one-of-a-kind feeling! They’re educational here too. You know, very much explaining giraffe conservation, this adds depth to the visit; in a way, you come to appreciate these gentle giants even more. Like your tour with the elephants, this spot also has restricted hours, because it’s extremely popular, and as I was saying, getting there earlier usually helps sidestep some of the crowds. Feeding a giraffe is for sure an amazing feeling; yet there is a bit more to know, as it gets very messy! Have your camera ready, so you don’t miss it!

My guide had solid local insight; however, in my view, maybe the vehicle I had could have used a bit of an upgrade!
