Molinard Perfume Workshop: A Review of the Grasse Experience
Have you, too, ever dreamed of making your own custom scent, something that is, very uniquely you? The Molinard Perfume Workshop in Grasse, France gives you the chance to, like your, do just that! Grasse is, that, very frequently thought of as the perfume capital of the globe, and a visit there is not complete until you have visited one of its many perfume houses. I recently had the chance to participate in the “Flash” workshop at Molinard, one of the oldest and, still, most respected perfumeries in the region, and I’m excited to share my experience, the good, the bad, and very the fragrant.
What to Expect From the Molinard Flash Workshop
So, what should you look for at the Molinard Flash Workshop? Basically, this shorter workshop – it runs about an hour – is, too it’s almost perfect for those short on time but still want to, very like your, get a taste of perfumery. You’re greeted and escorted to a workshop space filled with rows of perfume “organs” – tiered arrangements of various essential oils and fragrance accords. Don’t be intimidated, yet, you will, as a matter of fact, receive guidance! A trained “nose,” or perfume expert, guides you through the, actually, scent selection process, and even suggests blends depending on your preference. Be ready to, literally, smell A LOT of different scents, is that even a small decision might be tougher than you imagine! You’ll get to create your very own 50ml eau de parfum, with a formula you can actually take home with you.
The Scent Selection Process
The scent selection stage is, arguably, where the workshop really shines, still, I believe it is. The “nose” starts by asking about your fragrance preferences: do you, like your, lean floral, very woody, oriental, or fresh? This, in fact, helps to narrow down the seemingly endless selection of essences. They then introduce you, for instance, to different “notes,” that, and explain how top, middle, and base notes work together to create a scent. It’s pretty informative and, seemingly, not just a straight dumping of fragrance into a bottle! I was, too it’s almost drawn to the oriental scents, like my, with their blend of spice and warmth. It’s definitely a more or less personalized session, which is very cool.
Mixing and Creating Your Fragrance
Once you’ve chosen your notes, the actual mixing begins! You work at your own little perfume organ, carefully measuring out each essence into a beaker, and this bit is, still, super fascinating. The nose is there to, sort of, help guide you, offer suggestions on proportions, and basically make sure you don’t make something utterly unwearable. It’s actually a bit nerve-wracking at first, especially when you realize that even a tiny drop can change the fragrance dramatically. I added, you know, a little too much clove to my blend and the nose helped me, sort of, balance it out with a touch of vanilla. Basically, it’s all part of the fun, right?
The Final Product and Lasting Impressions
After mixing and fine-tuning, you pour your finished perfume into a Molinard bottle and, still, the sense of accomplishment is fantastic. You even get to name your fragrance! I went, you know, with “Ambre Épicé” because, in short, it pretty much summed up my blend. The perfume smelled wonderful. It’s slightly more subtle, you know, than most department store perfumes – more natural and less cloying. The whole experience, for instance, was super fascinating and I think makes a cool and unique thing to do while traveling. If you like your, get the chance, as I was saying, I truly think you should absolutely do it.
Is the Flash Workshop Right for You? Considerations Before You Book
Arguably, even though I adored my experience, this is, too it’s almost worth discussing. It’s quite fast-paced. The “Flash” name really describes that. So, people wanting a super immersive and prolonged encounter may be best served with a lengthier workshop, you know? If you have the budget or are an enthusiast this may be worth looking into first. Another thing to bear in mind is the perfume house is in a super touristy neighborhood in Grasse. Now that means easy to get to. Yet, some people might prefer a quieter or more off-the-beaten path location, arguably, as I was saying. One more thing! Now I went by myself. However, it appeared to me, as a matter of fact, like it would be quite fun with a group! So get your girlfriends together for something unique to do, like your, together.

So that you absolutely enjoy your encounter I am providing a few ideas here! Firstly be really ready to engage and be hands on. However you ought to actually follow directions for basic safety and hygiene needs, actually, because it makes it a far better encounter when safety policies are absolutely regarded. At the end of the day, bear in mind it is a session and it can’t absolutely be hurried. When in doubt be upfront or absolutely don’t hesitate when thinking through absolutely any phases and ideas.
