If you really prefer fewer tourists jostling for that selfie spot and you’re leaning towards, I don’t know, something a little more serene, Lan Ha Bay tends to be your kind of place. A half-day tour is more or less awesome for squeezing in a taste of this beauty without dedicating an, basically, entire vacation day.

What to Expect on a Half-Day Boat Trip

Right, so what did the tour actually look like? Now, the kayaking was probably the highlight, arguably. Think about gliding across calm water, the enormous limestone karsts looming over you, just a bit impressive, really. We, as you may, kayaked into a dark cave (don’t worry, tour guides know the safe ones!), and it felt that we, well, discovered something super special, actually. The water is very clear, and seeing the sunlight filter through the entrance to the cave was, certainly, awesome. That it really allows you to be right next to all that nature can muster in one single shot. The experience gives an additional bit of peace. So I would definitely recommend.

Snorkeling in Lan Ha Bay

Right after drying from the sun’s hotness, now the snorkeling part, maybe it wasn’t quite as impressive as some of the world-class snorkeling spots, in reality. The visibility actually depends on the day and the season, just a little. The water wasn’t the most amazingly, strikingly crystalline we’ve ever seen. Having said that, there really were plenty of colorful fish darting about, which, for us, was super cool! Even if you’re a snorkeling novice, in practice you’ll still enjoy the experience, arguably, but you might just want to adjust your expectations very slightly.

The Boat and the Crew: What to Expect

Very honestly, the boat itself, it wasn’t super luxurious, as one would anticipate. But it was actually comfortable, with plenty of space to lounge and enjoy the view, totally! What very much stood out for us, and, truly, was the friendliness of the crew. They have, basically, some super helpful individuals that gave details about the region. Those fellows tended to have really cool points that make your mind change in just an instant. They’re a very dedicated bunch who wish nothing but for tourists to love what they see!

Food on Board: A Taste of Vietnam

Okay, about the food… You shouldn’t go expecting something fancy or of Michelin-star standard but expect that it will, just, fill you up, like it tends to! We had a selection of, like your average, Vietnamese dishes, including, actually, some tasty spring rolls, fresh seafood, and rice, seemingly. It wasn’t gourmet, obviously, yet it did provide a decent snapshot into local flavors and kept our stomachs from grumbling while we kept experiencing Lan Ha Bay!

What to Bring on Your Trip

• Sunscreen: Definitely, the sun is intense, extremely!
• A hat: Ditto the point, very truly.

• Waterproof bag: To, obviously, protect your valuables, apparently.

Actually, a half-day tour gave us a really good “teaser” of Lan Ha Bay and, I believe, worked nicely for us, seemingly. If you’re really short on time, arguably, or simply want a taste of what the bay is like, then its probably very awesome. I do think that one of its cons, very clearly, is that a half day may just not feel enough. The place itself is filled with adventure just about to be had and discovered, as a matter of fact! I, actually, feel if you want to take it all, one entire day is perfect.

Basically, we walked away very happy campers, to tell the truth.
