Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon: A Definite Guide & Top Review

So, Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon in Iceland, that’s a place, yet, it’s totally unlike anywhere else. Basically, it’s where giant chunks of ice, like seriously massive icebergs, break away from Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier and then, in a way, drift out towards the sea. As a matter of fact, seeing this, very, very special place, it just completely blew me away, and it is that one spot I’d visit again, at the drop of a hat. So, a trip here, just, offers awesome scenery with a healthy dose of stark reality, literally.

How to Get There & What to Think About

Well, alright, heading to Jokulsarlon? As I was saying, there are a couple things that you have to take into account. Seemingly, it sits along Iceland’s Route 1, AKA the Ring Road, just, around 380 km, perhaps, 240 miles, or so, from Reykjavik. Basically, the trip itself is straightforward. Alright, I would always check road conditions first, given Iceland’s weather likes to keep things interesting, actually, sometimes more challenging than we’d like! Generally, renting a car is arguably the most popular choice to get there, and of course, the upside is it gives you, for example, a bunch of freedom to check out many, very nice spots along the way.

Best Time to Head Over

Arguably, the timing for a trip to the lagoon varies so based on what you really want to see. So, if witnessing the Northern Lights dance over the icebergs, like the ones that stretch on forever is that you want to see, then obviously, you are going to need to visit during the winter months from September to April, approximately. Anyway, you get much longer nights then. First, should you rather have milder weather, coupled with 24hr daylight, then obviously the summertime (June to August), just gives you, in a way, totally amazing views, even that midnight sun is, quite an experience.

At the end of the day, located close to Jokulsarlon is Diamond Beach where small icebergs tend to wash ashore. What actually happens is that they glisten in the sun, arguably, creating stunning photo opportunities. In fact, strolling there could feel otherworldly, mostly as these frozen sculptures just contrast against the volcanic sand.
