I mean, some of the woodwork and detailing around the lounge area really gave a sense of place, very distinct, but if you like a minimal vibe, so just be aware. It felt solid enough for what you’re paying. Now, as for the cabin, you could describe it as cozy; pretty much every room gets a view, too. I suppose nothing beats waking up with the bay right outside your window. If you spend a lot of time in your room though, think about upgrading.

The cruise schedule involved a pretty good selection of things, too. It felt nicely balanced for me, personally. Of course, Ha Long Bay is all about the views, so there’s lots of that from different angles, which is pretty awesome. It almost feels like you’re in a movie when you paddle between these enormous limestone cliffs. But heads-up – so it can get a bit crowded in some of those spots, I’m talking about the afternoon in particular, when several tours seem to arrive at once. Pretty similar for the visit to Sung Sot Cave – one of the bigger caves in Ha Long Bay. As I was saying, it’s gorgeous, lit up and all, so but you might find yourself shuffling along with quite a crowd. The morning Tai Chi session on the top deck? Supposed to be meditative, that sort of thing, and that’s fine and all. However, it felt more like going through the motions because I wasn’t an early riser, but that is up to your own expectations. Anyway, after all of the above, you might want to take some time to lie on the deck.

The food situation was a bit up and down. That is to say, some meals were seriously good, like that seafood feast they put on one evening; also, there was a good variety, and the flavors were pretty genuine, as far as I can tell. I mean, there’s a proper effort there.

On the other hand, I felt like some dishes just seemed toned down for tourists. Just so you are aware, don’t expect too much spice if you want really proper, robust Vietnamese flavors.
