Honest Review: Hollywood Sign & Celebrity Homes Tour
Okay, so, I recently checked out the Los Angeles Hollywood Sign and Celebrity Homes Tour, and I figured I’d drop my thoughts here. It’s almost one of those things you feel like you gotta do when you’re knocking around in L.A., is that right? I mean, you see it in movies, TV shows, you, like, name it. Very few skylines are quite as recognizable. The experience itself? Pretty interesting, I guess, but here are, very, a few things you, you know, oughta be in the loop on ahead of throwing down your cash.
Booking and First Impressions
Booking the tour was, like, easy peasy. There are rather a ton of companies pushing the same sort of adventure, too it’s worth doing a little look-see to compare prices and exactly what they say they’re slinging. I wound up going with “Starline Tours” because they had good reviews and their, like, package fit my timing.
A little word to the wise, make, really, sure you read the fine print. Some tours only roll past celebrity houses; they, you know, don’t actually stop, yet others boast of being “up close and personal.” When it comes to “personal” bear in mind that getting past the front gate is something that, typically, won’t happen, as a matter of fact, that is very private property.
The meeting point? A bit of a frenzy. A ton of, you know, tourists milling about, various tour guides hollering, just a little chaotic. I checked in and then had, you know, like, maybe fifteen minutes to kill, so I wandered around a bit. The tour bus itself? Well, pretty average, actually, you know. Comfy enough seats, though, is that right, and decently air-conditioned. That is, like, super important, usually, especially if you are there, I mean, basically, in the blazing summer.
The Hollywood Sign Experience
Right, so the first stop was getting a gander at the Hollywood Sign. The tour took us up into the Hollywood Hills, clearly along roads that, honestly, I doubt I would have ever found all by myself. And the views? Really something, in a way, something really special.
We pulled over at a spot they call “the vista point.” Or, at least, that’s what our guide did! Very cool spot for pictures, might be that. But brace yourself, or so I think anyway, you, like, won’t be the only one with the same idea! You will find pretty a throng of tourists jostling to grab that killer shot. A bit annoying, so too it’s almost! Our guide gave us a handful of minutes, I would say it’s fair, which was just about okay to get a few snaps and take it all in.
You will learn, basically, the view is great and all, might be? Though it’s, I mean, the sign itself appears smaller than you imagine from the photos, and so, in short, not the gargantuan letters you saw, actually, in movies and stuff. Regardless, a cool experience and really awesome photo opportunities!
Celebrity Homes: Who We Saw (Sort Of)
After soaking up the sights from above, the bus got back on the road for the celeb homes part of the tour. So the guide had plenty of tales to spin about who lived where, a little about their histories, really.
Let’s get real, at the end of the day, the phrase “celebrity home” is probably code for “really tall hedge.” Is that not always the way? We drove past, just, pretty much everything, a ton of gates, or what looked, might be, sort of like a, you know, a driveway. The gardens are, for example, also usually really green.
But the guide tried his level best, you’d be forgiven to know! Pointing out bits of roofs, like a balcony there, something, for instance. There were also, you know, stories that, I think, sometimes had folks coming out. A lot of famous people living right on the streets, well I mean, basically the fancy rich roads.
One of my favorite bits? Could be when he dished the dirt on, what did he say again? A past scandal! So it’s almost juicy gossip is certainly something that, arguably, jazzed up the whole ride. While I am being fair, I think a person sees as much that you’d find flicking on, actually, “MTV Cribs.” If they, might be, ever brought that thing back!
So you might ask “was it cool to just, like, swing past where famous people live?” Might be, as a matter of fact. I am not entirely sold. Maybe I have seen, apparently, a handful too many episodes of “Selling Sunset.” Now I kinda figured all the homes would feature the, just, swankiest infinity pools overlooking the Pacific. My bar was a bit steep.
The Tour Guide: Making or Breaking the Experience
Here is what I would also mention: the guide can seriously make or break, what did I want to say? Just about anything on the whole tour, still. You, you know, need a person that brings the energy, I mean, basically, that knows their stuff, and certainly has that skill to make sitting on a bus for a few hours a blast.
And our dude? Basically, as I was saying, alright, he really crushed it. He, honestly, spewed factoids that I, honestly, found mind-blowing and pretty juicy behind-the-scenes anecdotes. Did he embellish from time to time? Oh definitely, naturally! Still, the tour did not seem tiresome for even an instant.
Clearly, or should I not state the obvious?, so in some respects these tour companies could live or die, obviously, with a charismatic guide that loves engaging crowds. Or it seems, is that right? They could be doing something right because folks would be more open for the sales pitches that I, honestly, swear happen every thirty minutes, still! Is that a tad rough? Maybe!
Value for Money?
Let’s talk money now, anyway, which in that case is usually the big question, for instance. Does the Hollywood Sign and Celebrity Homes Tour give value that, really, lives up to the expectations? Or am I just wasting, I mean, basically, my coins here?
You do get to visit the Hollywood sign, you understand. If seeing that up close, virtually, or at least as close as you can get, is tops on your list, for example, then arguably yes, naturally, it may, that is, like, justify the expense. Plus, let’s just add, that you get to remove a bunch of driving and route-finding worries out of your plate.
Though, like your ability to peep through the trees at who knows what is a dealbreaker? Now maybe pump the brakes a bit, still. Think whether that time would be, seemingly, more awesome on something such as, obviously, the Walk of Fame or kicking around, actually, on Rodeo Drive instead.
Think also that in some respects the prices swing a bit between tours. If you don’t look properly before buying a thing you could seriously end up throwing, actually, funds at the same adventure with less juice.
Overall, the “Starline Tours” trip could be that sweet spot I can definitely recommend for tourists after something pretty easy and fast with the potential of adding a Hollywood glitz to their L.A. check-list. Is the tour a trip full of insane value for every buck? Now maybe you should ask some others, now!
I will go this far: Is it a pretty chill morning activity? It clearly is.
