Honest Review: Bali ATV, Quad Bike & Ayung River Rafting with Lunch

Bali ATV Quad Bike

Alright, you’re checking into doing the Bali ATV quad bike thing paired with some Ayung River rafting, including grub, right? As a matter of fact, I’ve been there, splashed around, and rumbled over just about every bump, and thought you might be into getting my real take. So, this ain’t gonna be like those ads. This is how it actually went down, things you’ll want to be ready for, and like, you know, if it’s even worth your hard-earned cash. I will try to describe both aspects of the tour and my experience too.

Gearing Up for Grime: The ATV Quad Bike Experience

ATV Quad Bike Experience

Okay, so, right off the bat, when you get going with the ATV quad bike part, picture this: It is almost guaranteed you’ll be slapping on a helmet and climbing onto this, pretty hefty machine. The tour operators tend to, often, run a safety drill before letting you go wild. Listen closely, or really, you’ll end up stuck in the mud or, you know, bumping into someone – both of which I observed, by the way! Expect a lesson or two, to ensure you aren’t floored when riding your four-wheeled friend.

You can prepare to tear across jungle trails, past rice terraces shimmering like green staircases, and maybe even through small rivers, or you could drive straight past it because you’ve lost control for a second, it could happen to anyone! It’s pretty exciting, sure, and it’s dirty as can be – like, bring old clothes that you’re 100% totally fine with sacrificing to the mud gods. Really, in some respects the wetter, the muddier, the better, so many think, or maybe it’s just me! But seriously, you need to get a grip as there will be quite a bit of mud!

Typically, the ATVs themselves can differ hugely, depending on the tour company. Some operators use fairly new machines which are a treat to utilize and other operators, as a matter of fact, feature clunky, old beasts that have clearly seen way better times, which is why it’s better to look for the newest models if you’re the fancy type. Do your research and have a chat when you book, is that right? Honestly, it can totally swing your experience from “epic” to “meh.” Then it all depends on how the route goes too! The trail will change things and some companies have tracks where you might experience better views than with others! This too will influence things massively.

There’s just a bit of something you will want to keep in mind about these tours, honestly. Often, that means that some areas can get pretty backed up. It’s not always a solitary, ‘communing with nature’ vibe when you find yourself sitting, like, bumper-to-bumper with eight other ATVs while trying to get up a muddy slope. Think amusement park, where a 4-hour ticket becomes a 1-hour total ride time.

Conquering the Current: Ayung River Rafting

Ayung River Rafting

Now, it might be time to trade in your quad bike for a paddle! The Ayung River rafting part, it seems, really gives you that Bali green overload. Think jungle coming right down to the water’s edge, vines hanging every which way, and the noise of animals and insects – not to mention your raftmates’ cheers, too it’s almost impossible not to hear them!

Actually, rafting can differ as per company too, for example some are more professional and helpful than others. When you get going some will steer you perfectly whilst you just relax, others are useless. Be ready to listen to every instruction for you don’t want the boat flipping, I assure you! Most rafting companies provide waterproof bags, or you know, suggest leaving expensive stuff back at your hotel which is fair. But I would bring a waterproof camera or phone case – that way, you could still snap some pictures or make memories as you’re going. The guides, they really seem to know their stuff – like where the big rocks are and where it’s totally fine to splash your buddy sitting up front.

Speaking of splashing, maybe you could prepare to get soaked. Seriously soaked! There probably will be stretches of calmer water where guides usually start water fights. Really, it’s hard to avoid, but arguably, it’s all part of the experience. Yet it really is great when you want to refresh.

You might also find things will probably vary. There could be some rapids that get the adrenaline pumping, and some tours have little stops to check out a waterfall. But some spots along the river are more developed with buildings. It isn’t fully escaping into the wild 100% of the way like some expect, especially close to the launch point. Remember too, there could be quite a few stairs leading down to the river (and back up!) so it helps if you’re reasonably fit or like that type of adventure!

Lunchtime Layover: Food with a View?

Lunch with a view

Very often these combination tours come with grub included, I should mention! It’s nice, and after you have been powering machines, fighting the current with your oar, then getting food into you becomes very important indeed! Don’t expect, clearly, a fancy restaurant experience – things tend to be pretty buffet-style at places overlooking the valley or river, which gives you the type of break you might want from getting bumped around every two seconds! Most of the time they will give the option for local food like Nasi Goreng (fried rice) and maybe some less known things too, maybe vegetable bits and something to pick on from a grill. Yet, keep in mind these stops can also get pretty busy, for they also serve to those doing individual activities alone. Is that fair to say?

Breaking Down the Bali ATV & Rafting Package: What to Know

Bali ATV and Rafting

  • What’s included? Typically, they tend to say it has transportation, safety stuff, the ATV ride, river rafting, lunch, showers, and sometimes changing rooms.
  • What to bring: It almost sounds cliché, yet wear clothes and footwear that are likely to get super trashed. Always bring a change of clothes, sunscreen (very important!), insect repellent, and a waterproof bag or case for your phone and other tech. Take extra money in case too.
  • How fit do I need to be? Actually, ATV riding is a breeze if you can handle the machine, whereas rafting is, really, doable if you’re alright with a few stairs and some paddling. If unsure, just ask to have some people doing the paddling too!
  • Is it safe? Mostly it feels pretty safe, although that feeling quickly evaporates as the tour gets busier and with all the bumps coming from everywhere. Tour groups go over the dos and don’ts and generally people tend to go down a level and drive carefully too.
  • Is it worth it? Like, okay, that is what is important, so, that depends. If you want a jampacked day, with all your Bali thrills, like, squeezed into one trip, it’s convenient. So it is something to keep in mind as it goes a little deeper into the costs. You are likely to pay a pretty penny for just these rides anyway!

My recommendation on Bali adventures

Things To Do in Bali

The combo of these Bali experiences gives an authentic memory that lasts a lifetime. You’ll get the unique landscape views that the quad offers and you’ll pass though nature with water sprinkling on your face as you raft down Ayung River. The tour I attended was amazing, especially since lunch was included! Do a little exploring and see what other activities you may like! This may be a great experience for people in shape, but I could imagine the activities getting exhaustive, especially when traveling with elders or people with medical conditions. But if you are relatively fit and are up for adventure and sightseeing, go for it! If you need relaxation and luxury more than experiences like this, perhaps this is something to hold off from experiencing.

Conclusion

For real though, doing the Bali ATV quad bike and Ayung River rafting with grub is very convenient, sure. You do have to ask if you’re seeking those incredible postcard moments all trip long or maybe, actually, an exciting day filled with many different tasks. Is it pricey? Yes, but I feel you have to expect those things in our days.
