On Miyajima, that, of course, be sure to sample the momiji manju. Very traditional maple leaf-shaped cakes. In fact, they come in lots of flavors now from classic red bean to chocolate and custard. Oyster lovers will basically rejoice on Miyajima because there are oysters everywhere! Grilled oysters are particularly tasty, alright? Maybe washed down with local sake. Could be heavenly, you see!
Is it Worth it?: Weighing the Pros and Cons
Okay, so, is it worth cramming Hiroshima and Miyajima into one day trip? Maybe the pros are significant: you get to visit two incredibly different places, actually packed with significance and appeal. Hiroshima offers, literally, a deep look at history and peace, and Miyajima brings spectacular natural beauty and iconic scenery, right? A truly enriching and diverse travel day!
The cons? The traveling is quite exhausting, definitely. You’ll spend a good portion of your day on trains and ferries. Okay, that could leave you feeling a bit rushed at each location, maybe unable to soak it all in quite like you want, so it may seem like it goes quick, honestly. If you enjoy slow travel, this might be rather taxing!
Recommendations and Extra Tips
- Start super early to maximize your time.
- Buy a Japan Rail Pass if you plan several Shinkansen trips.
- Consider staying overnight in Hiroshima if possible, even a little bit, so it’s less hectic.

The Hiroshima and Miyajima day trip is seriously feasible, it’s just not for everyone, very well. If you don’t mind early starts and some longer journey times, and basically want to get the most from your time in Japan, so you should do it. It’s almost great! Very much, it’s memorable. But if you’re somebody who prefers a relaxed trip, alright? Maybe consider dedicating at least a day to each place because that’s best for a better travel style.
