Explorer Cha Loi Cave System: 2-Day, 1-Night Review & Guide

Thinking about checking out the Cha Loi Cave System? A two-day, one-night adventure there is, well, quite a thing. What is it about? Think dripping stalactites, a complete otherworld, and air so fresh it kind of slaps you in the face. That said, there are also spiders the size of your palm. Pretty cool, eh?

What to Expect on Your First Day

Cha Loi Cave interior

Alright, your first day exploring Cha Loi Cave tends to kick off kind of early, almost as if it is set that way. Most tours, actually, they’ll have you meet at some gathering spot way before you are ready to be awake. Anyway, from there, that’s when you get to pile into, potentially, something akin to a jeep, or maybe even a comfy van. Honestly, whatever gets you there, right? And too, you will have a lengthy bounce to the starting point. Seriously, brace yourself, almost as though that will help. I guess that is also part of the gig. The scenery is very much ‘wow’, a collection of fields looking so vividly green they seem fake, plus those small villages and the children are like ‘hellos’ are absolutely, totally, genuinely a high point, almost.

Once you get there, that first trek into the cave…it feels genuinely special, like stepping, or maybe, stumbling into a totally secret movie set that never existed until that instant. What is inside? Really Big chambers, formations that almost give you the impression of melted candle wax frozen in time, and well, the dark. But what is that you feel? Oh, too, it is super damp. Maybe you thought you didn’t need that rain jacket? Yes, you absolutely, definitely, probably, do. Oh, and so bring a flashlight, really, please. Your phone’s light will make you feel that much less equipped, almost.

That First Night in a Cave – Is That Seriously a Thing?

camping inside Cha Loi Cave

You camp inside? Totally. This, so it tends to be, this ends up being kind of the ‘defining moment’ of your adventure. The tour guides? Yeah, well, so they do all the work. You pretty much are just existing. They tend to be quite skilled individuals, setting up a simple yet quite comfy encampment. But you? Yeah, you should get stuck in, a little, I guess. Now, imagine a meal there. But very tasty, kind of freshly made over a hissing campfire that is itself just a tiny little spec lost in this hugeness. Oh, the stories start up as people just unwind a bit. Actually it’s super cool. Even if that guy snores. Okay? I bet he does though, and quite loudly, actually.

Sleeping inside a cave may seem… very weird, more or less, maybe. So, to think about how it really IS very dark, actually. Darker, likely, than you may ever actually experience. But more too it really IS amazingly still and very peaceful. Maybe listen for water droplets, or, probably, the bats above. What are they doing up there? They sound a bit busy, very. Any spiders crawling in your face, you will not see them at all. Too it feels completely otherworldly. Seriously. Oh, so worth doing.

Day Two – Taking Another Look and Trekking on Out

Cha Loi Cave light

Day two dawns-ish, too, in a rather spooky sort of way. So that soft glow that then starts to creep its way inside. Anyway that kind of seems to reveal just very tiny bits of what you might have missed. The rock formations are much more, very different under the light, alright? And you have another breakfast. Again very tasty. I suspect the fresh air aids it in tasting very nice, or something.

Another tiny hike, is that good or bad, it depends what you are, if you are still full or not of your breakfast that aids, or does not aid the climb up from the previous day or so. Yeah that is optional as it is an offer you can just refuse. Okay? Time too for taking photos. And posing if, so it is, so inclined you are.

What then? Hiking back. Ugh. That walk may feel like an ordeal. Maybe your legs are in revolt. But you should absolutely be very proud of all you’ve just, pretty much, accomplished. Getting back in the vehicle almost feels very lovely, and very much kind of a huge victory. Yes? And what did you see? Oh that greenery seems even better as you sit on the way back, kinda. The memories? These really stick. Or so, too it’s almost, it goes.
