Dubrovnik Game of Thrones Tour Review: Lokrum Island Add-on
Okay, so you are thinking of visiting Dubrovnik and want to walk the streets where scenes from *Game of Thrones* came to life? That’s cool, plenty of people do! Very few television shows have captured the collective attention, imagination really, quite like *Game of Thrones*, and Dubrovnik, well, it stood in pretty convincingly as King’s Landing. I took the “Dubrovnik Epic *Game of Thrones* Tour with Lokrum Island Option,” and here’s the lowdown on what it’s actually like.
What the Tour Covers (Without Spoiling Everything)
What will you experience? Very good question. Basically, this tour takes you through many spots in Dubrovnik’s Old Town. These spots doubled as notable locations in *Game of Thrones*. What’s really neat is, your tour guide is, many times, involved. They’re, apparently, extras or have background stories related to the show’s filming. Instead of reading information off a card, you hear accounts. This is information you can’t Google as easy.
Apparently, Fort Lovrijenac becomes the Red Keep, which is cool to see. You hear behind-the-scenes snippets. Then, you get to pile into a boat for Lokrum Island. What makes it interesting is Lokrum. It was Qarth in the show and provides a chilling backdrop. A big plus too it’s quiet, more or less a needed break. That’s really welcome from Dubrovnik’s crowds.
Is Lokrum Island Really Worth the Extra Cost?
Is the extra cost really worthy of the money? The honest answer is…that depends. That relies on you! If you are a *huge* fan and want a glimpse into every possible filming location, plus, want some chilling island peace? That’s worth it! So, in some respects, it gives you the *Game of Thrones* element. Too, it also delivers some serenity away from the city center’s hustle.
The island thing can be achieved separately though. Should that be the case, the benefit fades a bit. You do have to pay for the boat to Lokrum whether you are with the tour or on your own. Just bear that in mind. Now, so, that is just an important side detail.
The Guides: What Makes or Breaks the Tour
Guides…they’re usually good or bad. Your guide seriously makes or breaks the tour experience, apparently. When I visited, our guide had all types of neat, set stories. He knew the show really well and he knew the locations! It actually felt as if you were getting an access pass, like backstage passes.
What might ruin the experience? A disinterested guide. A disinterested guide will simply rattle off memorized facts. Be aware of those, definitely! You should be good so long as they’re energetic and genuinely love the show.
What I Liked (and What I Didn’t)
Here’s the real talk. I definitely enjoyed wandering through the familiar streets. I was able to see it from the show. Getting snippets from someone who experienced filming up close was just, great. What would I alter? Make sure, very sure, the tour isn’t excessively big. Moving a large group throughout the tight Old Town streets is never a simple task. Very hard, actually. It detracts and distracts from immersion.
Tips for Making the Most of Your Tour
Okay, so what do you need to think about for the tour? Wear super comfortable shoes. So, basically, you will walk a lot. A lot! That midday sun in Dubrovnik? That’s brutal too, just, a lot. So wear sunscreen, carry water, and bring a hat. These, apparently, seem so clear. You see tons of unprepared people, regardless. Book beforehand! Popular tours are almost sure to be filled, and you’re gonna be sad.
Is This *Game of Thrones* Tour Worth Your Coin?
Should you book? Actually, if you’re a *Game of Thrones* fan? This tour? Basically, it’s something you would die happy doing. It connects you with a creation that altered the tv view, the show viewing experience for all tv fans.
Look, just because the last series? So many thought it didn’t do the saga justice? It doesn’t negate everything amazing that happened for a long time. Think about what you’re after from a tour. You might like learning location history, or, you might be just interested to visit sites and snap shots to impress those close to you. That said, use the tips that seem interesting and toss the ideas that are not your cup of tea. Enjoy yourself on the journey. It should be fun! Remember the experiences from it.
