Thinking of seeing what the desert outside Doha is like at night, riding across the dunes and camels? Well, so too was I. Qatar’s desert safaris happen to be famous, offering people a distinctive peek into the Arabian wilderness. Now, I would like to share my encounter with a Doha nighttime desert safari, so you, like your family, can see if this escapade, so to speak, hits the mark. Is the experience, you know, amazing? Are the thrills quite real? Lets’s find that out, shall we?

Setting off into the Night

The safari actually began when a 4×4 picked my friend up right at our hotel. It felt sort of adventurous right from the jump, since you get to drive from Doha out to the desert area. Now, the vehicles utilized were, basically, tough Toyota Land Cruisers, prepared to handle the rough terrain. That drive out gave me time to check out Doha disappearing behind us, making way for the open desert scenery. Seems to me the guides tend to be experienced drivers; as I was saying, they deflated the tires a bit to give the vehicles the traction it is going to take for dune bashing. Seems cool, correct?

Thrills with Dune Bashing

And after arriving at the dunes, the action really started. I have to tell you that dune bashing turned out to be the top highlight. I mean, seriously, that involves driving up and down, like, these enormous sand dunes in a 4×4. The sensations were clearly something different – a mix of thrill and utter excitement. The driver, like, skillfully went up and down the slopes, giving, to be honest, some very near-vertical moments! There were screams, gasps and bursts of laughter coming from our vehicle, too it’s almost, you know, one wild, very exciting experience. You should hold tight! One word describes it – exciting!

A Serene Camel Ride at Night

Once we had the thrilling dune bashing, then it was camel ride time; like your step into the serene part of the adventure. Is that cool or what? What I can tell you is that the camel ride became like a calm contrast in comparison with all the adrenaline from driving over dunes. Now, climbing atop the camel, with, I mean, the desert settling to be darker as dusk started showing itself, brought like a unique, peaceful, moment. You get these majestic animals taking very slow, almost meditative steps over sand dunes; really lets your spirit take its ease while observing the scene around you. If I am being totally honest I’ll say the experience felt pretty ancient as though participating in centuries of tradition; like your getting this slow-moving rhythm providing time, literally, for calm reflection. And, naturally, taking photographs, something I did to make sure that time stands still.

Dinner in a Traditional Desert Camp

So after those memorable activities then came suppertime inside a Bedouin-style camp put together to make the experience immersive and, you know, authentic. Seems like a great way to relax. Is that not right? As I was saying, at camp there were opportunities for taking photographs in customary Arabic clothes or try henna painting; that actually adds depth culturally to that adventure as well. I think people gathered within the tents made traditionally; where like your they get to have some real Arabic coffee including, naturally, delicious dates – signaling hospitality with warmth. Anyway the main deal tended to be this BBQ dinner, which included, you know, many tasty grilled meats together with some of the sides too. Live entertainment with the tanoura dance -which featured an artist turning really quickly- happened, you know, creating something energetic together with this celebratory aura.
