Djerba Carriage Ride & Blue Lagoon Lunch: A Candid Review

Djerba Blue Lagoon

So, you’re considering a half-day carriage ride with seafood lunch at Djerba’s Blue Lagoon? You know, it’s almost one of those things that sounds picture-perfect, you know? But before you book, like, you probably want a realistic picture, right? I will walk you through my recent experience to help you figure out if this excursion, in a way, is something you might actually enjoy.

Booking and Expectations: What I Thought I Was Getting

Djerba horse carriage

Alright, so, first things first, you see ads all about, you know, “romantic carriage ride,” “pristine Blue Lagoon,” and “delicious seafood lunch.” It, I think, paints a certain picture, you know? A picture, so to speak, of turquoise waters, gentle breezes, and fresh-off-the-boat seafood. But, just to let you know, the reality, in some respects, well, is often a little different. Just a little. I booked my tour online, and, well, the description, in fact, promised an intimate experience. It said, you see, a small group and personal attention, you know? And, like, as you might guess, that’s not exactly what I got.

You see, that “small group” turned out to be a bunch of other tourists crammed, more or less, into several carriages. Which, you know, isn’t awful, but is that exactly the peaceful ride I envisioned? That is not to say I didn’t make friends, right? But still! Personal attention was, in fact, stretched pretty thin. The booking part, it must be said, was simple enough. Yet, the, you see, information about pickup times and locations was a bit vague, you know? Leading to a frantic phone call that very morning to sort everything out. Basically, make sure you confirm all those details way ahead, right?

The Carriage Ride: A Bumpy Start, With Pretty Views

Djerba Countryside

The carriage itself, it seems, was…well, a carriage. That is, it wasn’t exactly luxurious, if you get what I mean. You see, the seats, in fact, were hard, and the ride, very, very bumpy. It’s not like my teeth were rattling, yet every little bump made it clear that you are going for a ride in a horse and cart. So, too, it wasn’t a smooth city bus, alright? Yet, you know, the horses seemed well cared for, and the driver was really pleasant, in fact, trying his best to point out some of the sights, that is.

The route, basically, took us through the Djerba countryside. You could view olive groves and palm trees, you know, dotting the landscape. It was, arguably, quite pretty! Quite pretty, that is. That being said, the constant clip-clop of the horses and the heat, it seems, eventually wore me down a little, you know? Make sure you bring water and maybe a hat! Anyway, the ride was longer than I had expected, maybe an hour and a half, so keep that in the back of your mind if you tend to find yourself impatient or even get a little restless. It seems like the pretty scenes will keep you plenty happy. Anyway, if it is what it seems, that’s alright.

Blue Lagoon Arrival: Is It Really Blue?

Djerba Blue Lagoon beach

After that, you arrive at the Blue Lagoon. Which, well, isn’t exactly a “lagoon” in the tropical island sense. You could view the scenes that appear in travel brochures, you know? It is a stretch of shoreline with some, in a way, shallow water, which looks super pretty and the beach area that has views that makes one stare. The water, it tends to be fairly clear, but maybe not the, you know, vibrant blue I had envisioned. Honestly, I’m so sure there are bluer beaches, like your local seaside get away you and yours find pleasure going to.

It was crowded. You get what I’m saying? Filled with other tour groups, you know, all jostling for space and pictures. Yet, it’s still pretty to see and everyone on the trip got their fill. And as you can see, they sell snacks to take for that trip home. We were shown, like your puppy in training for a prize to be won, where to find the seating area and told that we were now on our way for dinner. You get what I mean? Great scenes, great snacks but very hot and very bustling.

Seafood Lunch: Fresh Catch or Tourist Trap?

seafood lunch

The seafood lunch was, you might guess, the make-or-break part of the whole excursion. Which, well, I went into with fairly optimistic expectations. We, it seems, were seated at long tables under a shaded area, like you get at a park where people can get away from the Sun. It was fairly basic but functional. The, in fact, drinks weren’t included, just to keep in mind. Meaning you are going to shell out extra for water or soda. A bit annoying, actually, you know?

The food arrived family-style. Platters, for example, piled high with grilled fish, shrimp, couscous, and a few salads. You see, the fish tasted reasonably fresh, actually. Though the shrimp, in some respects, was a bit overcooked. The couscous was alright, alright? But nothing to write home about. I was, like, a bit wary of the salads, so too I only took a small portion just in case they might disagree with my stomach later, right?

The whole meal, it feels, was very, very rushed. Very rushed, like your mom at dinner after a football practice on Friday before a big game. As soon as we finished one plate, so too the waiters whisked it away. Bringing the next thing. So, too there wasn’t any time to savor the meal, like one might prefer when visiting a tourist spot! Overall, the seafood lunch was fine, but probably not the, like your parents when the see that lottery win, culinary experience I had been hoping for.

Overall Value: Worth the Money?

Djerba Tourist

You see, after it all, would I say the Djerba carriage ride with the Blue Lagoon seafood lunch is, well, really worth the money? Well, it is quite the situation and I could easily say one way or the other. In short, it depends on your expectations, you know? If you are dreaming, like your chances after taking the LSAT, of a luxurious, secluded experience, arguably, you might be disappointed.

Yet, if you’re after, you know, a general way to see some of the countryside, enjoy a bite to eat, and don’t mind the touristy vibe, so, too, it could be a pleasant half-day outing, if it’s what it seems. Weigh the pros and cons, then decide! You get what I mean? I think that for all it lacks, like if your puppy couldn’t quite learn all of the steps from a dance move, still I will look fondly back on what was on offer to those travelers looking for something fun!

Here are my quick thoughts!

  • Carriage Ride: Enjoyable, just be prepared for a, in a way, bumpy ride.
  • Blue Lagoon: Pretty, albeit pretty crowded, you know?
  • Seafood Lunch: Decent, but perhaps not a “gourmet” adventure.
  • Overall: A reasonably average outing, you see, managing expectations is super important.

I do think you can enjoy your time. Maybe a bit of a rough patch or a bump in the road for a moment, but at the end of the day it’s an entertaining trip. You should definitely give it a look, just to know and get more intel!
