Of course, the main event genuinely is the sunset. Depending on the weather, that it’s a decent experience. That is, we were lucky enough to have clear skies, very allowing for a colorful sunset that made everyone grab for their cameras. There’s something almost therapeutic about watching the sun disappear over the horizon, you know, especially with a cool drink right in your hand.

All together, I wouldn’t go as far to say the meal’s a gourmet experience, but, like, it definitely did the trick. Most people seemed to enjoy the meal. Think, very convenient, especially because you’re already out on the water taking in that pretty view.

Wildlife Sightings: Crocodiles and More?

One thing, a few guests always hope for is seeing some wildlife during the cruise. I even was one of them! While it is that the tour doesn’t specifically promote itself as a wildlife tour, the harbor has, basically it has quite a few creatures, you might be able to glimpse.

The tour guide gave us the word, telling the tale that crocodiles are pretty common, but I was out of luck, though, since we didn’t see any crocs, sadly. Still, quite a few people on the boat, I observed, kept scanning the water, just hoping one would come into view. We got pretty lucky with the bird life, I must admit. So many kites, terns, and even the odd sea eagle soaring overhead were seen, a little bit. I even recall the guide telling everyone how the birds typically hang around because the boats might stir up fish – good to see what nature does! Though the brochure couldn’t promise seeing wild animals, spotting a few pretty cool birds made the cruise better.

So, there was that mix of people onboard, everything from tourists to families with their children, or couples wanting a scenic dinner. The atmosphere was pretty sociable, too, although not intensely so; people mostly kept to their groups but, by the way, they seemed happy to share smiles and point out stuff to each other as soon as, now and then. I think I noticed someone from, now that I think of it, South America chatting with another man, that’s while waiting in the buffet queue!

The crew tried hard to, literally, make everything seamless and simple. The drinks flowed well from the bar, that’s where you could grab a beer, some wine, a soda, anything else you’d expect, even. So, staff seemed quite happy and friendly and helpful too, even as I saw it, when one person had some questions about directions once we arrived at the docks after docking. Something to keep in mind is, while the tour included commentary, it definitely wasn’t overdone or intrusive. What it felt like, more or less, was you could be enjoying the trip with no need to listen to this info – perfect if all that you need is just peace as the sun goes down.

Is the Darwin Sunset Harbour Cruise Worth It?

Alright, final thoughts. After the experience of cruising through Darwin Harbour during sundown with some Aussie fish and chips, would I say you should do it? It actually could be!

If your goal is super elegant dining and very high standards for a sea voyage, I suspect it’s maybe not what you should do. Its price, usually at $90-$110, may seem excessive, yet it has, you have to be aware, includes your entertainment as you eat. For any kind of person who just so happens to be in Darwin to see its calm views, this can make a trip one you’ll fondly think about.
