Cusco Tour: A Detailed Review of Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puca Pucara & Tambomachay

Visiting Cusco is so, really like stepping back in time, very straight into the heartland of the Inca Empire, basically. And that popular tour that takes you to Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puca Pucara, and Tambomachay? Well, that really is kind of a must-do, alright. I thought I would provide you with what to anticipate during this trip to make it that bit more worry-free, I believe. It offers, almost, a taste of Incan ingenuity and some beautiful scenery that just kind of lingers, basically.

Sacsayhuaman: A Mighty Fortress Above Cusco

Sacsayhuaman fortress

Sacsayhuaman – I might have gotten the spelling off on that name just a bit – it’s actually more than, you know, some group of ruins. That imposing construction, which you could say sits above Cusco, showcases Incan stonework at like, very best, basically. Those stones? They are seriously gigantic, and kind of fit together with like zero mortar. That thing, for real, weighs tons! So you have to wonder about their ability to build structures that look awesome still, too it’s almost unreal, I believe. Get ready for stunning views of Cusco down below – especially with views on that valley too, its quite something. Plan about two hours minimum for exploring – maybe even three, really. It’s totally that worthwhile if you appreciate amazing engineering or want some really neat photos of that valley, actually.

So you know, that thing’s got that story, that apparently it once held multiple buildings, and enormous temples and stuff. I want to see if they could bring all of it back and show folks what went down back in the day. Yet, even with what remains, which looks worn out a little now, yet so many years gone by? You sort of gain something from it – I see it more like you’re peeking through an era from long before ours. Then, just picture what would’ve happened, I assume, you sort of put things in the current state of the present to it’s almost as if people living back then did better in some areas then us in those modern age, which looks kinda pathetic, actually!

Qenqo: Caves and Ceremonial Stones

Qenqo ceremonial site

Qenqo? What a cool name, right? If that is your next place on the tour. This area features – a lot! – you know, those caves and carved-rock features they have around, basically. I heard something like, that its original usage involves like some crazy rituals and maybe even that ancient sacrifices occurred at a spot near it, that, basically. I did find it a little eerie – those spaces are so enclosed but with enough room to stand upright or something. If you are very sensitive to spooky places I would not recommend it, even when daylight hours comes. Be mindful about bringing a tour guide. They really show the whole area that you’ll never understand when doing on your own or reading some leaflets lying down, you see?

Just so you know, Qenqo might appear fairly different than Sacsayhuaman – like rocks compared to, well, buildings, arguably. Still, that aura about a mysterious feeling that one can pick up while traipsing throughout feels special, you understand? I’ve heard theories how underground canals might route drinking mineral water under places for many meters towards other structures around or next locations such as Cusco. Regardless, to know whether its exactly like which the guides claimed is definitely worth getting those insight from the region itself, right?

Puca Pucara: The Red Fortress

Puca Pucara red fortress

So you know, Puca Pucara’s pretty neat! “Puca” kind of translates to something that looks “red” in the native lingo. Some say those fortress used to glow ruby looking back into daylight, actually. People consider that place being, really, like that old army station used during Inca period, basically. While quite more reduced sizes rather that others that existed like it, Puca Pucara offered this feeling of being right next important passage.

Make sure you climb until that, very very summit! And just pause some mins, you know? Get looking far away up high or over into sides around you. Those view can’t be put through some lens nor display well onto displays to tell it to others out somewhere: really it demands one see it as well – this gives much weight behind taking your exploration around! Be sure it has good temperature: while not terribly intense compared high up those range above 3,400 meters from coastline in other area around or toward place where tours begin! You won’t probably believe the difference unless testing stuff right under.

Tambomachay: The Water Temple

Tambomachay water temple

Now, last thing’s Tambomachay – or people also put name “Water Temple” to this one too. And really – how amazing these springs must have meant historically, that they had an offering over something that flows continuously for years now! In contrast what someone see looking through Puca Pucara with land stretched out beyond what someone will gaze from down atop those spots near springs from this place here now at Tambomachay: those contrast add onto richness from travels, you know? That is amazing!

This provides peace so many will look towards searching! Do pause beside springs, let small mist spray softly all over! Incase warmth builds along this tour time! That’ll renew you and give something so fresh, too it’s almost awesome!
