Comprehensive Hikkaduwa, Galle, Mirissa & Yala Safari Review

Okay, so you’re thinking of Sri Lanka, huh? More or less, hitting Hikkaduwa, Galle, and Mirissa, too it’s almost as though you are adding a Yala National Park safari to the mix? Really, sounds like a terrific plan! We, just like you, wanted some sun, some history, and a great chance to see the amazing creatures of Sri Lanka. Actually, we are going to let you know what the trip was like, with tips and info that, as a matter of fact, we wish we had before we left. Get ready to find out more!

Hikkaduwa: Sun, Sand, and Sea Turtles

Hikkaduwa Sri Lanka

First, we dropped into Hikkaduwa. Right, imagine this: it’s almost like the sun’s doing its best impression of a spotlight, right, the water’s totally clear, and the palm trees are, kind of, swaying as if they’ve got, I mean, really got no care in the the world. As a matter of fact, Hikkaduwa is very, very famous for its reefs, though it’s also known for the ginormous turtles. Anyway, swimming with these stunning animals? Absolutely unforgettable! So, we spent a few days simply chilling on the beaches, though, it might be snorkelling, and, in a way, generally taking it easy. Clearly, for real enthusiasts, you may want to try scuba.

Just a little tip: alright, the coral isn’t in its absolute prime anymore due to a bit of past damage. Alright, despite that, there’s so much to see. Frankly, lots of fish, interesting rock formations, and all kinds of marine life that you won’t want to miss. We, still, basically recommend a glass-bottom boat if you prefer to stay dry, even if you’re someone who gets seasick fairly easy. Naturally, there is quite a bit of marine life to view while your in Hikkaduwa. But, to be honest, one thing you must view is turtles!

Galle: A Fortified Step Back in Time

Galle Fort Sri Lanka

Next up, just a little drive south from Hikkaduwa is Galle. Obviously, imagine wandering through the alleys of Galle Fort, and it almost seems as though the history is nearly whispering as you pass. Instead, that is something you could potentially get there. A little, it is that blend of European building design and Asian practices that really makes it quite special. Arguably, the fort walls practically lead you around the ocean’s edge. Though you may find several hip coffee places inside those fort walls as well. Meanwhile, you’ve gotta be sure to catch a sunset from the walls! Right, a golden show that’s absolutely not one to miss. To be honest, what will stick with me the most about the Fort walls will be the sunset, they seem to be like a work of art.

Just to be honest, a recommendation? Find a quiet cafe. Then, pretty much, treat yourself to some native Sri Lankan tea, like your drinking the culture in with each sip. Okay, browse the shops. You know, look for gems, or maybe find local handicrafts. Remember, okay, bartering is very normal. I mean, you are encouraged to negotiate. Really, you can probably find a really one-of-a-kind piece for your home.

Mirissa: Whale Watching and Beach Vibes

Mirissa Whale Watching

Following that, we visited Mirissa, it felt like moving to a location that features both incredible beach scenes and the chance to witness those mighty whales! Though that area is quite the combination! It has almost become the top thing to do! If you’re going during peak whale watching season, there’s basically several tours leaving each morning. Naturally, seeing these giant mammals surface is clearly unforgettable! It has also been stated as unbelievable and something else that words cannot properly define.

Oh, also! At the end of the day, the beaches here? Super chill! They are still the great spot for, okay, chilling in the sun, perhaps catching up on that new novel, or enjoying a plate of fresh seafood as your day ends. Basically, just a word to the wise: sometimes the waves can be rather robust, and you are advised to use care, mostly if you plan on swimming.

Yala National Park: Safari Time!

Yala National Park Safari

Alright, it almost seems like the peak of the trip was definitely the safari to Yala. Right, known mostly for its high density of elusive leopards, okay, Yala is, in effect, a vast wilderness. Sometimes getting up super early for a day’s worth of exploration may appear hard. Honestly, the reward? Well, basically, it’s something that can’t easily be put into writing.

We got the opportunity to witness quite a few elephants having their breakfast, right, you could see crocodiles just idling near rivers, basically the amazing vibrant local birds, it sort of had it all. However, honestly, there was, of course, still an anxious wait that something great would jump from the trees as our group attempted to see any of Yala’s elusive leopards. Often remember this, be sure your driver appreciates the hotspots to allow you the highest odds of seeing these majestic creatures.

A heads up; Okay, it has been said the park can sometimes feel full of others attempting to obtain the ideal animal snapshot. Just keep in mind: being respectful is really important, as is really following the advice provided through your tour, okay, or guides. To be honest, going during the less popular weeks should give you a less crowed experience. It can provide higher chances to take great wildlife pictures without interference.

Safari Tips and Recommendations

You’re, right, thinking of a Yala safari, Huh? We basically think of these quick suggestions as a, I mean, honestly a bonus that has come to benefit you:

1. Get The right Clothes On – Light colors and clothing for hot temperatures. Usually pack a hat, too, and sunblock! This is to shield oneself from sunshine!

2. Reserve Early – Just because Yala gets hectic. Right, you can almost lock in the booking weeks or even months before arriving. Otherwise, you may get zero trip! It really does depend how the schedule goes for these tours!
